Donald Trump Threats Tehran, Asks US Navy to Destroy Harassing Iranian Gunboats
Donald Trump on Wednesday wrote on Twitter, that he has instructed the United States Navy to ‘shoot down and destroy’ Iranian gunboats should they harass US ships. The tweet amps up the ongoing US Iran tensions. He said, “I have instructed the United States Navy to shoot down and destroy any and all Iranian gunboats if they harass our ships at sea.”
Heads Up! Donald Trump has taken the US-Iran tensions to new heights
- Donald Trump Tweets Warning to Tehran
- There’s rising tension between US Navy and Iranian Revolutionary Guard in the Gulf Waters
The White House has no immediate comment on his post. However, Deputy Secretary of Defense David Norquist told reporters at the Pentagon, “The president issued an important warning to the Iranians, what he was emphasising is all of our ships retain the right of self-defence.”
It was a warning tweet from President Trump indicating that the US military would continue to abide by their right to self-defence.
The president’s morning tweet came shortly after Iran announced its first successful launch of a military satellite into the Earth’s orbit.
Tensed US-Iran Relations in Gulf Waters
On Sunday, Iran’s Revolutionary Guard acknowledged a tense encounter between their vessels and US Warships in the Gulf.
A week ago, 11 Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps came very near to the US ships. While the Guard did not allege that US forces sparked tension, the Pentagon accused Iran of making “dangerous and harassing approaches” to six American warships with their boats.
After President Trump’s tweet, Iran’s semi-official ISNA news agency reported a senior military spokesperson Abolfazl Shekarchi’s comment. He noted the US soldiers infected with the novel coronavirus and said, “Instead of bullying others, the Americans should put all their efforts toward saving those members of their forces who are infected with the coronavirus.”
Another day, another tweet but the US Iran tensions are on a heat now.
