Will Netflix and Marvel really take this step?
What’s happening with Disney Plus? And will it allow this to happen?

- Black Widow: First time a solo Scarlett Johansson
David Harbour has been in the film industry for more than twenty years playing a variety of challenging roles. Currently playing the beloved character Hopper, a grumpy but fan favourite cop in the Netflix series Stranger Things which is set to return for a Season 4 is also a Russian superhero, Red Guardian in the upcoming Black Widow from the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Harbour who is playing the part of Red Guardian in the highly anticipated release this year in May (but has been recently announced has been postponed until further notice due to the recent outbreak of Covid-19), Black Widow would see for the first time a solo Scarlett Johansson reprising her role as Natasha Romanoff fighting with the very roots of the organisation that trained her.
It would begin MCU’s much awaited Phase Four. Black Widow (*spoiler alert*) unfortunate demise at the end of Avengers: Endgame indicates that this stand-alone film will focus on Romanoff’s past.
Fan Theories – Wishful Thinking or Real?
Fans have delved into a frenzy thinking that a possible crossover between the two universes might be in works. The internet is filled up with multiple investigative theories that make plausible claims that this may in fact be true and fits in the mass scheme of things because of one simple fact, Harbour’s characters from the two universe have one thing in common: their Russian connections. Hopper (Harbour’s character) did not happen to have the best ending in the Season 3 of Stranger Things (* spoiler alert*) where we see him end up in a prison in, wait for it, Russia.

Harbour, though, has quickly jumped onto the bandwagon surrounding these theories putting a rest to the claims stating that a crossover between the Stranger Things universe and Marvel Universe is and will remain just that, a rather interesting and yet, baseless theory.
Though he did despise disappointing the massive fan following that wants this to happen, nothing of this nature is cooking. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, he jokingly states that he could understand the origin of these theories as he “had a very Russian year” indeed.
But the question still remains, are we to believe Harbour or is this the usual Marvel cover-up/an effort to pleasantly surprise fans?
Disney Plus – The Next Big Player?

On one hand it would seem that as big as Netflix is right now, Marvel would not want to share any more space with Netflix. With shows like Jessica Jones, Agents of Shield having already created a market for Marvel on Netflix it seems unlikely that Marvel would venture into this area.
Moreover, Marvel’s parent company Disney Plus has offered streaming services to a wide collection of Marvel Movies on their streaming app. During the SuperBowl in 2019, a trailer announcing brand new original shows like Loki, WandaVision and The Falcon and The Winter Vision with the logo ‘Disney Plus’ gleaming at the end of the trailer evidently was a message to its competitor’s saying-
‘We have arrived in the market and we are not here to play’
It left fans all over the world shocked in glee providing them with an opportunity to dive further into the Marvel universe.
So, let’s just say the MCU is doing fine without any help from Netflix.
On the other hand, Marvel is known for notoriously putting thought and effort into connecting theories, characters to treat their fans. No one can forget theories like Time Travel, Captain America wielding Thor’s hammer, Tony Stark dying or Spider Man in Iron Man 2 all were in fact proven to be very much accurate and true.
So have the dedicated fans hit bang on another one? Or are we reaching for the stars here?
But who doesn’t want Black Widow to meet another fearless female superhero- Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown). I think it’s safe to say, crossover or no crossover, theory or reality, it would be the stuff of our dreams to see them together in action taking on the world, one badass move at a time.
