Could Daddy be home for a season 3?
‘Daddy’s Home’ or, the pains of being a stepfather, had hit the ball out of the park with its first two instalments. The film brought in huge box-office turnover, and as we see that there’s no reason why director Sean Anders should not be up for a third season. The modern comedy has plenty of dramatically funny moments for the perfect family night, although it does have its own share of quirks. The first of the two instalments, ‘Daddy’s Home’, had a stepfather, Brad, contesting with his wife’s ex-husband, Dusty, for the attention of his stepchildren. As opposed to Brad, Dusty is more dominating and his unannounced return makes Brad intimidated and insecure. In the final moments of the film, and like in any good happy-ending, Brad and Dusty become more accommodating of each other as they decide to co-parent the children.

The first instalment did face some criticism for lacking originality in the comedy parts, but the Wahlberg-Feller chemistry worked like a charm earning the franchise a second film. ‘Daddy’s Home 2’ turned out more like a holiday movie, more so because it had a Christmas release. The main cast returned in their roles with two major additions, John Lithgow and Mel Gibson, who play fathers to Brad and Dusty. Things start falling apart like dominos when the fathers of Brad and Dusty begin interfering in their sons’ co-parenting arrangements.
Although the sequel had received a mixed bag of reviews, the box-office turn-out was a hit. This should give Sean Anders and us nothing but hope that ‘Daddy’s Home’ Season 3 if it were to happen, would work like butter on toast!
‘Daddy’s Home’ was released in 2015 followed by a sequel in 2017. So, if the math works out, a third instalment could be around the corner for next year. However, nothing of the sort has happened yet, although director Sean Anders has some ideas that might work for ‘Daddy’s Home’ Season 3.
Director Sean Anders has interesting ideas
Director Sean Anders is not sure if season 3 for ‘Daddy’s Home’ is a plausible scenario. But he has a few interesting ideas if it were to happen. During the promotional tour for ‘Instant Family’, Anders admitted that there might have been a little joking around regarding a season 3 plot. It would be set twenty years into the future with Brad and Dusty reuniting as old men during the wedding of one of the kids.
He thought that it would be fun and definitely right up the franchise’s alley and charm. He told “Cinemablend”,
“I think it’d be kind of funny if we did kind of what they did with Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau, how they got back together later in life. I think it’d be funny if when Mark [Wahlberg] and Will [Ferrell] are old men that we get back together and do Scarlet’s wedding. I think that’d be fun to see with those guys”.
Is Mark Wahlberg up for it?
It’s not just us who find Sean Anders’ idea for ‘Daddy’s Home’ Season 3 interesting. Mark Wahlberg would be a hundred percent up for it if Will Ferrell and Anders decide to go for it. In fact, the actor thinks that it would be fresh and good to play old for a change. He admitted to growing inclined towards embracing his old age and we know how that man ages like fine wine! Wahlberg feels that while it’s flattering when productions approach him to play characters younger than him, it’s also a little too out there.
Speaking of Anders’ ‘Daddy’s Home’ Season 3 idea, Wahlberg told “Metro“,
“I haven’t thought about that, but would love to be able to, at some point, play a grandfather. I’m embracing getting older. I don’t mind playing dad. I just got an offer to play a 24-year-old. I was like, ‘That’s a bit of a stretch.’ I appreciate it. It was flattering. But I like to embrace my old age. I age gracefully”.
So, you know, they are up for it, you are up for it, we are up for it! ‘Daddy’s Home’ Season 3 might not be that crazy an idea.
