For years, fans have been running the hashtag “#SixSeasonsAndAMovie” in an attempt to call out its long-awaited movie.
“One of the best of the series and one of the best episodes of a sitcom I’ve ever seen“, said another Reddit fan.
We’ve listed the top three reasons why ‘Community’ was one of the age-old classics that deserve to be reprised.
#1 Demolishing the taboo around Community colleges
Amidst quirky personalities and wacked courses, the ‘Community’ series showcased the true reality behind a community college experience. In real life, the name “Community College” in itself is sadly looked down upon.
But, the show focused on highlighting its positives through a diverse crowd that belonged to different age groups, races, and religions, with inspiring life stories and experiences.
The faculty of Greendale Community College was never academically illustrious but they more than made up for it due to their greater real-world experiences. A prominent example of it was the Vice-Dean of Greendale Community College and Head of the school’s air conditioning annexe, Robert Laybourne who was in charge of the most profitable division of the college. He has been portrayed as one of the most powerful personalities on the show.
A few episodes of ‘Community’ (Spanish 101, Introduction to Film, and Comparative Religion) demonstrated how the students of community colleges can benefit by trying out a myriad of fields based on their interests too.
#2 Algorithm behind Community’s storyline
In an interview, the creator of ‘Community’ Dan Harmon described the articulate storyline behind the classic sitcom show. What began as doodles and scribbles on random pieces of paper, led to a highly intricate and unimaginable narrative. Dan Harmon developed an eight-step narrative that he addressed as embryos. Every turn or gag was mapped out by studying every film and TV show and figuring out its algorithm.
Its episodes could quickly transform into a Claymation fantasy or a Dungeons & Dragons game, or a plain pillow fight and still grab the attention of viewers.
Harmon followed a simplistic pattern of creating relatable characters, cohesive storylines, and third-act life lessons that time and again produced soulful stories.
Another proof of ‘The Dan Harmon Story Circle’ brilliance is the sci-fi comedy series, ‘Rick and Morty’.
#3 Eternal love of fans of ‘Community’
One of the other main reasons why ‘Community’ deserves an immediate season 7 is because of its eternal and dedicated love from its cult fan base. Even today, fans pour out their love by sharing their favourite moments and quotes from the show. This kind of overwhelming support and love surely deserves a season 7. Ask any ‘Community’ fan.
‘Community’ garnered a lot of attention through what is known as one of its best episodes – the “Advanced Dungeons and Dragon”. The episode was based around suicide and bullying. However, Netflix pulled away from that episode due to an objectionable scene. Immediately after it, fans shared their disappointment. They further went on to explain how there was no misrepresentation of a race.
“Absolutely one of the best sitcom episodes of all time. The jokes are so impossibly dense that you can hardly keep up, the characters really shine, the actors (especially Chevy) put in fantastic performances, it’s packed with memorable moments and quotable lines, and has that ‘Community’ warmth which makes it so comfy to watch”,
Said one Reddit fan.
