What is ‘Cold Case’ all about and what happened to it?
‘Cold Case’ was an hour-long crime drama on CBS and focused on the Philadelphia Police Department’s homicide squad that investigated murders that had gone unsolved for years, maybe even decades.
Each episode would focus on one such case that hadn’t been actively pursued by the police department, typically a murder. The show often featured a double casting by the same actors, one that was investigating the crime in the present time and one when the crime took place.
The show was reasonably popular in its time, but a writers strike killed the rating of the show around the fifth seasons, from which it never really recovered. And after its seventh season, shop closed forever for ‘Cold Case’.But what is the talented cast up to these days? Let’s find out.
Kathryn Morris, John Finn, and Jeremy Ratchford: Where are they now?
Kathryn Morris joined ‘Cold Case’ after her stint as Tom Cruise’s estranged wife in Steven Speilberg’s ‘Minority Report’. And when the show was running, she starred in the films like ‘Mindhunters’, ‘Paycheck’, and ‘Resurrecting the Champ’. More recently though, she starred in ‘The Dirt’, a Netflix biopic about the band Motley Crue.
John Finn, who played Lieutenant John Stillman, came to ‘Cold Case’ with appearances in ‘Catch Me If You Can’ and ‘Glory’. After the show, his credits include ‘The Walking Dead’, ‘NCIS’, and the Brad Pitt astronaut drama ‘Ad Astra’.
Jeremy Ratchford is a favourite on the cop shows. He played Detective Nick Vera, having already appeared on ‘NYPD Blue’, ‘CSI’, and ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’. And the love for playing detective continued even after his role in ‘Cold Case’, and he appeared as a cop in shows like ‘Shameless’, ‘It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia’, and Clint Eastwood’s ‘Jersey Boys’.
Where to find Thom Barry, Danny Pino, and Tracie Thoms?
Thomas Barry played detective Will Jeffries, having appeared as Agent Bilkins in the first two ‘Fast and Furious’ movies and ‘Space Jam’. After ‘Cold Case’, his roles were in the following shows and movies: ‘Blue Blood’, ‘Grey’s Anatomy’, and Eddie Murphy’s movie ‘Mr. Church’.
Danny Pino has also been a favourite on cop shows. His roles include a lot of crime or police dramas like ‘CSI: NY’, ‘Burn Notice’, and ‘Law & Order: Special Victims Unit’. In ‘Cold Case’, he played Detective Scotty Valens. After the show, his credits include ‘Chicago PD’, ‘BrainDead’, and most recently sci-fi thriller ‘Mayans MC’.
Tracie Thoms remains one of the best-known faces after the show ended. She appeared in the film version of the legendary Broadway musical ‘Rent’ and joined ‘Cold Case’ in the third season as detective Kat Miller. After the show, she starred in Quentin Tarantino’s ‘Death Proof’, where she plays a stuntwoman who reluctantly agrees to take another stuntwoman on a very dangerous drive.
