Chris Pratt’s horrific ending for ‘Parks and Recreation’
In 2015, the cast of ‘Parks and Recreation’, Jim O’Heir, Adam Scott, Aubrey Plaza, Chris Pratt, creator Michael Schur, Amy Poehler, Nick Offerman, Retta, and Aziz Ansari talked about the series finale on ‘Late Night with Seth Meyers’.
During the interview, Meyers asked if any of the cast members had some ideas for the finale that were turned. Michael Schur revealed that Chris Pratt suggested an alternate horrific ending for ‘Parks and Recreation’ that according to him “would be funny to see”. Instead of the happy and joyful flash-forwards that were seen in the finale, Pratt suggested that the creators show the death of each of its main characters in the style of ‘Six Feet Under’.
Pratt spoke about how in the end a line would explain every character’s death. He also had an idea about how Andy and April would die.
“When you saw April, it would be that she died of a broken heart”
“And then you would see that Andy died because he was left in a hot car with the windows rolled up”
Fortunately, the makers did not go ahead with this idea. The finale of ‘Parks and Recreation’ gave everyone a perfect closure to their individual stories. However, the only death that was shown on ‘Park and Recreations’ was that of Jerry, who was a hundred years old.
Ending of ‘Parks and Recreation’
In true ‘Parks and Recreation’ style, every character got a fitting ending. The seventh and final season jumped a few years ahead. At the beginning of the episode, Leslie Knope was headed off to Washington, D.C. with Ben after she got a job at the Department of the Interior. April and Andy were also heading out to Washington after April secured a job at the American Service Foundation. While Donna and her husband Joe were moving to Seattle.
In various flash-forwards, the audience got to know what happened to the characters on ‘Parks and Recreation’. As suggested by Leslie, Ron Swanson, became the superintendent of the Pawnee National Park. Donna formed a foundation that would help teachers create after-school activities. Tom’s restaurant Tom’s Bistro did not work out. But he wrote about its failure in a book, titled ‘Failure: An American Success Story’ which was received extremely well. April and Andy eventually have a baby boy. Ben finally became a Congressman. Leslie ran for governor of Indiana, won the election, and went on to serve two terms. Jerry, who served as Pawnee mayor for a long time, died at the age of hundred.
Chris Pratt talks about the finale of ‘Parks and Recreation’
In an interview with “Entertainment Weekly”, Pratt talked about the popular NBC sitcom, ‘Parks and Recreation’ finally ending.
Pratt mentioned how people were ready for it to be done. He acknowledged how the creatives had been working very, very hard. They had already done around 130 or 150 episodes. Day in and day out, they were writing episodes and trying to create stories that can somehow stay fresh with the same core group of characters. Though he felt they had done a tremendous job, but felt eventually you just run out of stories to tell about these characters without it becoming hackneyed and becoming a sort of jumping the shark and turning into something that would not honour the characters.
“So, I think everyone just got together and decided, hey, we’re going to give this thing the ending that it deserves and give the fans something that they can really enjoy and complete the stories for these characters”
