While it would be exciting to fans, the producers have not confirmed anything as of yet. But as speculations go, there could be Downton Abbey season 7.

The series that first premiered in 2010, explores the lives of the fictional Crawley Family, the Earls of Grantham and their domestic servants. So far the British drama has released six series and there are speculations of a season 7. Read on to find out more!
Season 1
The series began a day after the grand Titanic sank. The main character Robert Crawley and his wife Cora Levinson have three daughters and no son. The eldest daughter Lady Mary Crawley who had agreed to marry her second cousin Patrick perished in the sinking. A distant cousin, Matthew Crawley becomes the heir presumptive.
Matthew proposes to Mary but she puts him down. Lord Grantham’s footman –Thomas Barrow is caught stealing which creates havoc for the staff and family. The season ends with the outbreak of the First World War in August 1914.
Season 2
The second season runs during the Battle of the Somme in 1916 to the 1918 Spanish flu pandemic. Matthew leaves Downton, joins the British Army and is now engaged to Lavinia Swire, daughter of a Liberal Minister. Mary now has feelings for Matthew but gets engaged to powerful newspaper mogul, Sir Richard Carlisle.
The flu causes a chaos in downton. While Cora falls ill, Lavinia dies which Mary and Matthew are very guilty about but eventually find their way to marriage.
Season 3
In season 3, the audience sees Edith falling in love with Sir Anthony who intends to marry him but he ditches her at the altar which leaves her heartbroken. Pregnant Lady Sybil and Tom Branson return to Downton after Tom is implicated in the burning of an Irish aristocrat’s house.
Lady Sybil dies after giving birth to her daughter. Devastated, Tom names their daughter after her. Bates who was imprisoned for his wife’s murder is now out after Anna helps clear his name. Mary gives birth to their son but Matthew dies in a car crash.
Season 4
While Mary tries to mourn her husband’s death, she now manages the shares of the estates as mentioned in the will. Lady Edith, middle daughter of Robert and Cora, who writes a weekly newspaper column, falls in love with her editor. But because of the British law, he cannot divorce his mentally ill wife.
Anna is raped by Mr. Green who is subsequently killed in a London street accident.
Season 5
In season 5, we see how Anna is accused of Green’s murder. Bates writes a false confession and flees to Ireland. But Anna is released after Miss Baxter is able to prove that Bates was in York at the time of the murder. Marigold is accepted in the Downton tribe as she is recognized as Edith’s daughter.

At the end of the season, Tom Branson and his daughter leave for America and Mr. Carson proposes marriage to Mrs. Hughes and she accepts.
Season 6
It is 1925, there is a huge crisis among the middle class in Downton Abbey and more bankrupt aristocrats are forced to sell their estate. Lady Mary becomes the estate agent while Anna has a miscarriage. Carson returns to Downton with his daughter for good.
The series ends with Edith and Bertie’s wedding where Anna goes into labour during the reception and becomes a mother to a healthy son.
Downton Abbey — the film!
In 2018, the series was made into a film which focuses on the time when King George and Queen Mary visit Downton. Their visit causes a lot of confusion and a big stir among the Crawleys and servants.
The movie gathered a huge audience for itself as it did for the 6 part series. The cast of the film remained the same as the series.

Will there be a season 7?
While it would be exciting to fans, the producers have not confirmed anything as of yet. But as speculations go, there could be a season 7. Maybe fans can start a petition for a new season with more drama, more history and a lot of that beautiful British accent.
