What are ABC’s plans for ‘Big Sky’?
The American procedural drama ‘Big Sky’ is based on the 2013 novel “The Highway” by C. J. Box. The show created by David E. Kelley premiered on ABC on November 17, 2020.
With three episodes already out on November 17, November 24, and December 1 respectively, this year, ‘Big Sky’ is looking ahead at a healthy 16 episodes run before the fans actually start worrying about its renewal.
However, this year, when we all desperately need some escape from the real world, there is comparatively lesser new entertainment available for obvious pandemic reasons. Also, most of the networks, including ABC, are cutting down the length of their shows. This raises concerns regarding the future of ‘Big Sky’ Season 2.
Will there be a season 2 to this procedural drama?
While it is too early to predict if ABC is going to renew ‘Big Sky’ for a season 2, there are strong hopes. The Network hasn’t made any official comment on what they have planned for the show’s future, but the fans need not worry as the show has not been cancelled yet.
Contrary to the rumours of cancellation, ABC is enjoying the ratings from ‘Big Sky’ Season 1. The first three episodes of the show have performed terrifically as far as viewership ratings are concerned.
As per “Newsweek”, over 11 million people have watched the episodes since its debut. The numbers are only destined to increase as we dive deeper into the proceedings of the show.
Considering the successful inception of the show, there are high chances that ABC will renew ‘Big Sky’ for season 2 once they evaluate the ratings of the entire season.
ABC hands the show a backorder
‘Big Sky’ is one of the very few shows in 2020 that is going to have its length extended rather than being cut short like most other shows.
“ABC has made its first back-order pickup of the 2020 season, giving David E. Kelley drama ‘Big Sky’ an additional six episodes”.
‘Big Sky’ was originally meant to have 10 episodes in the first season. However, now with this back order by ABC, the total number of episodes in ‘Big Sky’ Season 1 has been extended to 16.
This further eliminates any rumours regarding the cancellation of the show. ‘Big Sky’ is proving to be one of the most profitable shows of 2020 for ABC, and thus, the network is going to cash on it.
ABC’s ‘Big Sky’ stars include Katheryn Winnick, Kylie Bunbury, Brian Geraghty, Valerie Mahaffey, Dedee Pfeiffer, Natalie Alyn Lind, and others. Whether ABC will renew ‘Big Sky’ for season 2 remains to be seen, but currently, the show has 13 more episodes to be premiered in the coming months.
