The animated show ‘Avatar: The Last Airbender’ has beaten the cult phenomenon ‘The Office’ as the most-watched show on Netflix. Perhaps it’s time to bring the show to India?
Thought this year couldn’t give you whacky Netflix-related surprises anymore? Here’s throwing one at you right now! The beloved animated show ‘Avatar: The Last Airbender’, on Netflix, has recently smashed the viewing records of none other than the phenomenal cult show, ‘The Office’!
- ‘Avatar’ vs ‘The Office’
- The popularity ‘The Office’ enjoys
The two shows have nothing in common with each other (and nobody is expecting Netflix’s viewer analytics to follow an identifiable pattern anyway), but both have long stopped airing new episodes or seasons, so the fact that the animated show has shattered the viewing records is interesting, to say the least.
The popularity ‘The Office’ enjoys
‘The Office’ streams on Netflix abroad (and on Prime in India), and it has been the most-watched show on the streaming giant for a long time. Netflix doesn’t make its viewing data public, but Nielsen, a company that analyses ratings for TV, offers clues in the form of minutes watched.
Over the period of a year, the show clocked in 45.8 billion minutes. To get an idea, compare this to the Netflix original ‘Stranger Things’, which has 27.6 billion minutes watched!
Interestingly, the show is touted to leave Netflix next year so that NBC can stream it on its soon-to-launch streaming platform, Peacock.
‘Avatar’ vs ‘The Office’
According to an article in “Forbes”, ‘Avatar: The Last Airbender’ has picked up popularity on Netflix and viewer ratings based on the platform’s daily top 10 feature. While ‘The Office has appeared on Netflix’s daily top 10 only now and then and gathered 155 points in its run, ‘Avatar: The Last Airbender’ has managed to accrue almost double the points in only 45 days.
In India, the live-action movie version of the show, ‘Avatar: The Last Airbender’, can be streamed on Netflix. However, the animated show itself is yet to arrive. Perhaps the revealing new data about Netflix viewing records might suggest that it’s time for the show to be streamed in India as well?
