*lots of spoilers to follow*
‘Castlevania’ started strong and only gets stronger
For people who have reservations with the anime genre, creator of ‘Castlevania’, Warren Ellis, breaks all those doubts down and adapts the video game sensation into one of the best story adaptions, anime or otherwise.
‘Castlevania’ season one opens with focus on the lead ‘Dracula’. But only this time, Dracula has a human wife whom he loves to death (oh, the irony). And, after living in the cold yet beautiful castle all alone, Dracula’s wife teaches him to engage with the real world and adapt to humans. But, just as she is advocating this to Dracula, the church people find her and burn her alive at the stake, mistaking her for a witch.
This particular plotline sets a precedent for what the rest of the seasons of ‘Castlevania’ will soon follow, as Dracula vows revenge on the entire human race by unleashing all kinds of monsters on them. The revenge, that Dracula so desperately wants to serve the humans (and all humankind) who killed his wife, introduces a wide array of characters, each better than the one before them.
Dracula, more monsters and some magic
In Dracula, we have our hero, a troubled guy who has chosen to fall onto a dark path. A path where he wishes to spew misery on anything with a beating heart. And, in Trevor Belmont, the audience finds a former monster-hunter, with an impressive family history.
‘Castlevania’ also has Sypha, a priest-sorceress, tasked with knowledge about magic and a strict moral code, Dracula’s own half-son, Alucard, and the only humans inside the castle, Hector and Issac. But, season 2 brings a new vampire in town, Carmilla, who wants to overthrow Dracula’s empire, and, in the confrontation that follows, Dracula meets his end.
While season 2 focuses on the above-mentioned characters joining forces or standing opposite each other, ‘Castlevania’ Season 3 brings the story to a completely different arena.
Season 3 of ‘Castlevania’ is definitely one of the best seasons of the series so far, in addition to the two already great seasons before it. ‘Castlevania’ Season 3 brought new stories, characters, and allowed its audience to divulge themselves a lot further in their world.
So, what is in store for the upcoming season 4 of ‘Castlevania’?
‘Castlevania’ Season 4, hell-bent on getting better
Alucard, whose story has been heartbreakingly tragic, a shell of a man, in his loneliness and misery, becomes a creature to fear as the end of season 3 nears. He is not the first hero who turns villainous in the company of betrayal and loneliness and as it goes, haven’t all villains been born out of loneliness?
Season 4 of ‘Castlevania’ is rumoured for a late 2020 and early 2021 release, and will follow the footsteps of Alucard, a complex and fearsome villain who has now blurred the lines between good and evil, forever.
