Can a character really die in a comic book-based Superhero movie? Though we have seen many deaths, and a few permanent deaths, till now,. Now a little birdie tells us of the rumours of Yondu returning in Guardians of The Galaxy Volume 3 are true.
Highlights
- The Rumour
- Possibilities of Yondu coming back.
- James Gunn on Yondu’s return
Guardians of the Galaxy is one of the most successful franchises of MCU. In its previous two volumes, it had the fans rolling all over the floor and laughing their heart out. Over the perfectly crafted sometime improvised jokes and puns by the brilliant cast and director James Gunn.

At the same time, the movie also gave us many heart-touching moments. Moments like baby Groots’s dance, or when Peter Quill finally meets his father and learns the actual truth about his mothers death. Or the one where fatherly Yondu tells Quill in the space, “He (Ego) may have been your father boy, but he wasn’t your daddy,” right before sacrificing himself in outer space.
Or Yondu’s deserving Ravagers firework funeral!
But wait, the birdie tells otherwise.
Yondu returning in Guardians of The Galaxy Volume 3.
The news of Yondu returning in Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 3 is only rumour and nothing solid till now. The rumours are as empty as the Space in which Yondu froze to death. But considering the trend of MCU and other comic book-based movies, it’s hard to say if a character will stay dead or not.

We saw almost half of the world’s population, including half of the superheroes in MCU, dying in a snap during Avengers Infinity War, but they all came back to life in Avengers Endgame.
Now it is known that Marvel might bring character’s like Loki and Vision in an alternate timeline, or a character like Black Widow in the form of a prequel. Thus, the trend suggests that Yondu might return from dead in Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 3.
What are the possibilities of Yondu returning in Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 3?
Though the possibilities of Yondu returning in the next movie of Guardians in very thin, there are various ways through which we can see Yondu in MCU. Even if Yondu doesn’t come back from the dead in Guardians of the Galaxy, there are still chances of us meeting him through flashbacks. Especially the flashbacks and memories of Peter.
Other ways can be a prequel to the Guardians of the Galaxy. Yes, even though Marvel has shown no intention of going back in the storyline of Guardians, there is a possibility of us seeing Yondu in the prequel. And the most interesting possibility could be Marvel’s Disney+ new series “What if?”, it might show us Yondu in a different universe, or entirely different Yondu.
James Gunn on Yondu returning in Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 3
Fans are dying to see Yondu again, but it seems like James Gunn, the director of Guardians of The Galaxy Volume 1&2, is in no mood to give up to the fan’s demands. Yes, since the death of Yondu in Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 2, James Gunn is firm on his take of the character.
He stated in one of his tweets earlier this year—
“If a character dies in my films they will likely stay dead. I think stakes are important.”

Back in 2018, the director very clearly stated “[Yondu] will never be brought back to life as long as I’m around. His passing needs to mean something.” A Twitter user requested Gunn to bring back the character, Gunn holding onto his guns replied, “Unless we’re talking about some sort of prequel or flashback, I believe this would nullify Yondu’s sacrifice.”
It seems James Gunn is very clear about the fate of Yondu. He understands that Yondu’s return in Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 3 might hinder the experience of the audience and their faith in the character’s journey. But as long as there are possibilities, fans will keep asking for Yondu’s return.
