What makes the series so popular?
We live in the golden age of superheroes – from marvels cinematic universe to the dark brooding DC universe, and a plethora of accompanying series, complementing the larger universes. The norm here is that superheroes are the good guys – these are black and white stories with hardly any shades of grey.
‘The Boys’ turned this formula on its head and showed us a world where superheroes are not what they seem to be. What if superheroes were no more than a propaganda tool with a sinister agenda in play? ‘The Boys’ stands out from the cliche superhero trope, not to mention the exciting action sequences and story arcs.
Back in July, executive producer Seth Rogen made it clear during the comic con that “it’s because this show has fans and it is watched by people like you, they have decided to renew it”.
However, when questioned about the show’s timeline he said, “It’s anyone’s guess”.
Later, at home, he added further, “Hopefully, it will be some time this decade”.
He also added that the showrunner Eric Kripke and the rest of the team were already hard at work in the virtual writers’ room and, in fact, that the world they have created had too much material to work on and everything is in progress.
“We hope to be shooting in early 2021, but that’s up to a microscopic virus”, he said.
We are glad that he made these statements because now we can rest assured about the fact that everything is in progress and is going steady!

What about the cast for season 3?
The one new addition to the cast is Jensen Ackles from ‘Supernatural’ fame.
He is supposed to take on the mantle of a Soldier boy – aka the original superhero who had fought in the Second World War and ended up as “the first super celebrity, and an icon of the American culture for decades”.
He broke the big news on Instagram: “I keep wondering what I’ll do … when @cw_supernatural finally ends this year. Then it hit me.”
Eric Kripke, the co-creator of the long-run series ‘Supernatural’, said:
“As Soldier Boy, the very first Superhero, he’ll bring so much humour, pathos, and danger to the role. I can’t wait to be on set with him again, and bring a bit of ‘Supernatural’ to ‘The Boys’”.
There are also rumours of Jeffrey Dean Morgan from ‘The Walking Dead’ joining the cast, with Kripke revealing that he has already discussed a role with him. But everything is very hush right now and all we can do is try to contain our excitement.
“I don’t think it’s a done deal yet, but the will is there, and we’re both talking about it”, he said.
‘The Boys’ Season 2 plot: What will happen?
Only handful episodes from season 2 have been released so far. Amazon has decided to release three episodes each Friday. The season 2 line-up currently includes:
Karl Urban (Billy Butcher), Laz Alonso (Mother’s Milk), Jessie T Usher (A-Train), Karen Fukuhara (The Female), Jack Quaid (Hughie), Erin Moriarty (Starlight), Antony Starr (Homelander), Chace Crawford (The Deep), Dominique McElligott (Queen Maeve), Aya Cash (Stormfront), and Giancarlo Esposito (Stan Edgar), among others.
We can only hope for the main characters to stay alive for the rest of this season. But given the sheer amount of violence and action in ‘The Boys’, nothing can be guaranteed. Some of the show favourites may perish during this season as we already have new characters in the tray for season 3.
