Matt James is the first Black bachelor
Season 16 of ‘The Bachelorette’ had Matt James originally as one of the suitors of Clare Crawley. After the announcement to cast Matt James as the lead on ‘The Bachelor’ Season 25, James was removed from the seat of Crawley’s suitors. The casting of Matt James as the lead for ‘The Bachelor’ marks an important moment in the history of the show since James is the first Black lead to appear on ‘The Bachelor’.
Has ‘The Bachelor 2021’ released some show spoilers?
Matt James is also the second Black lead to appear on the show’s franchise after Rachel Lindsay appeared as the first Black ‘Bachelorette’ in season 13. Matt James’ break as the first Black lead on ‘The Bachelor’, however, came after viewers petitioned against ABC’s lack of diversity both on and off the screen. In fact, Rachel Lindsay spoke out and loud about how she would boycott ‘The Bachelor/Bachelorette’ franchise if the network did not make changes to their non-inclusive attitudes.
Where is ‘The Bachelor’ 2021 being filmed?
Matt James’ season of ‘The Bachelor’ has begun shooting and is being filmed in a Pennsylvania resort also known as the Nemacolin Woodlands Resort. The resort could be traced back to one of the episodes from ‘The Bachelorette’ season featuring JoJo Fletcher. Peter Weber and Kelly Flanagan, both of whom had been a part of ‘The Bachelor’ family previously, also featured the resort over social media. The choice of the location seemingly stemmed from the assurance of a hassle-free production. Rob Mills told “Variety”,
“The resort in Pennsylvania is absolutely stunning. We’re very lucky that this resort is massive because it’s conducive for all different types of dates at multiple locations. The look of it will be completely different. It was nice to have a change of scenery, but beyond that, the protocols and everything are the same — we have a good system in place for as long as we’re in pandemic mode”.
The first impression rose has been given away
According to “Reality Steve”, Matt James has already given away his “first impression rose” to the 25-year-old Abigail Heringer from Salem. Born deaf and assisted by cochlear implants, Abigail Heringer is a client finance manager at the Opus Agency. Among the 43 women contestants, including Abigail, the presence of Matt James’ former girlfriend, Madison Nelson could also be a possibility.
Madison and Matt had reportedly dated casually in 2019 and could be a potential pair this year. Besides, Kit Kennan has been making a name for herself as the youngest contestant for Matt James’ season of ‘The Bachelor’. “Reality Steve” also reported that among the 43 women, 10 have already exited by elimination from ‘The Bachelor’ season with Matt James including Nicole Rovner, Marie Dolce, Kimberley Courneya, Kennedy Taylor, and Saneh Ste Clare.
‘The Bachelor’ 2021 to be shot in a bubble
2020 has been hard for ‘The Bachelor’ and the franchise because of the Covid-19 pandemic. The production is taking extra precautions to maintain the safety standards of the cast and crew. Taking a cue from Crawley’s ‘The Bachelorette’, everyone involved has been in quarantine for 2 weeks and were tested for Covid-19. In order to ensure a smooth run for Matt James in ‘The Bachelor’ Season 25, more than the required number of contestants were brought in, just in case a contestant tested positive.
Rob Mills believes that the production has taken lessons from Crawley’s season and are much more prepared to handle Matt James’ season on ‘The Bachelor’. That means there would be no travelling around and no mushy extra romantic dates in this season. Speaking of literally devising a bubble to maintain the safety protocols, Rob Mills said,
“We’ve got to stay in a bubble … We’ve learned not to screw around with the bubble and just keep everyone there and keep everyone healthy. Obviously, once we can travel, we look forward to be able to do that again”.
