After Kevin Can Wait ended, fans of the popular sitcom Kings of Queens could hope for nothing but a revival. Recent rumours have once again put the show on the map for a possible reboot.
King of Queens was one of the most natural and effortless shows that slowly made its place in our hearts. A sitcom that hits all the right spots — happy, relaxed and straightforward — the longest-running, live-action comedy garnered a huge audience in its nine-season run.

It is funny, perceptive, and unpretentious, starring Kevin James as Doug, a delivery man who is married to Carrie, a secretary at a law firm. The story of a working-class family living in Queen stuck with the viewers for a decade, and rumours of a revival don’t seem out of the blue.
So, is the popular show back with a reboot?
Kevin Can Wait is not a reboot of King of Queens
Don’t judge a book by its cover has never been taken more seriously, until Kevin James made it clear over and over again that Kevin Can Wait is not a reboot of King of Queens. One cannot blame themselves for thinking it is, as the lead stars returned with the same premise of a family sitcom.
In the middle of season 1 of the show, Kevin’s reel wife, Erin Hayes, is killed off and replaced by Leah Remini. James and Remini continue in the sitcom, which fans are calling Kings of Queens 2.0.
The premise of the show? Kevin Gabble, a police officer, plans to spend his retired life with his family but finds it extremely hard to adjust to his new life. The show was cancelled after season 2, after creator Bruce Helford’s exit due to creative reasons and a dip in viewership.
King of Queens is making a comeback?
The year 2020 is being called a lot of things and none of them are happy. But one of its positive affirmations lies with the industry that it has affected the worst. It is officially the year of reboots. From rumours about the iconic Friends making a comeback or Gossip Girl, the sitcom world is getting a gem of its own.
King of Queens is officially coming back to the small screen with a season 10, or it almost is. After Kevin Can Wait was taken off air with just two seasons out, the creators of the show realised that the only reason for it to work as long as it did was the audience thinking it was a reboot for King of Queens.
The former premiered to 11 million viewers in 2017, and the viewership continued to decline post the first episode. The lead stars are both on-board for the revival. Now the only question is, CBS, are you up for it?
CBS: A long road to recovery
It is too soon to predict a release date for King of Queens season 10. The reboot is still in its initial stage and won’t hit the screens until 2021-2022 schedule, given the pandemic situation.
CBS has learnt from its past mistakes and is in no hurry to make them again. And we are ready to forgive these mistakes and watch the upcoming reboot with the same enthusiasm that we watched Kevin Can Wait three years ago.
In 2020, the world needs nothing but a simple family finding strength in each other, love and normalcy that the show offers.
