This must be the best selfie in the whole wide world and on www. The Gorillas appear to pose for a selfie with a park ranger in the Democratic Republic of Congo. They seemed to be copying the park ranger. It is such a perfect picture. And this was just another regular day at work for ranger Mathieu Shamavu, who helps protect gorillas at the Virunga National Park.
A spokesperson for the park told Sky News the pair both lived in a specially designed unit which cares for gorilla orphans who have been victimised by poachers or animal traffickers. In this protected park, there are more than 600 rangers who undergo intensive training programs.
These rangers are risking their lives on a daily basis to safeguard the park’s incredible wildlife. It is believed that around one-third of the world’s population of critically endangered mountain gorillas live in this beautiful and lush green park.
This is what everyone has to say about this special selfie.
Yvonne Ndege, a spokesperson for UNHCR Kenya, re-posted the image on Twitter, writing: “Selfie of the Year no question!”

For us, this is the selfie of the year. Especially when the act of the rangers is so SELFLESS.
