Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s new Instagram account broke Guinness World Record with 1 million followers in less than 6 hours
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s joint debut on Instagram has made there fans go crazy. The pair is already so popular on the photo-sharing platform that they broke an Instagram record. In less than six hours, they had 1 million followers.
The couple created the account to the delight of royal fans. The Guinness World Records announced that within 5 hours and 45 minutes the Duke and Duchess hit 1 million followers on Instagram.
The account, @sussexroyal is the first move towards independence after their decision to split households from Prince William and Kate Middleton.
Previously they connected to the public through Kensington Palace’s official social media account, which distributed updates equally between Harry, Markle, William, and Middleton. They will be using this account for both their work and their personal moments.
The previous record set by K-Pop star Kang Daniel, who achieved 1 million followers in 11 hours 36 minutes. The 22-year-old acquired the title in January after posting a selfie with the caption ‘HELLO’ on his Instagram. Guinness World Records in a blog post explained that the pop star dethroned Pop Francis, who reached 1 million in 12 hours back in 2016.
The verified account is intended to share moments close to their hearts. They followed Invictus Games Foundation and Invictus Games 2020, accounts for the Paralympics-style sporting event created by Prince Harry for wounded, injured or sick armed services personnel and veterans to compete.
In their first post, several photos were uploaded, including an image of their joint monogram as well as a shot of the pair enjoying a sailing trip on Sydney Harbour from their 2018 tour of Australia.
“Welcome to our official Instagram; we look forward to sharing the work that drives us, the causes we support, important announcements, and the opportunity to shine a light on key issues,” the post reads. We thank you for your support, and welcome you to @sussexroyal.”
The second post also included several photos, taken of Prince Harry at an official engagement at a YMCA centre in London.
The new account has prompted questions as to whether the public will get its first glimpse of Baby Sussex on Instagram. The account has since tripled its following, with more than 3 million followers till now.
