The Kolkata High–Rise building known as ‘ The 42’ became the tallest building in India after completing its construction on the 65th floor at 42 Chowringhee, defeating The Imperial in south Mumbai’s Tardeo.
The 42 is a residential skyscraper in Kolkata, in the state of West Bengal, India. The skyscraper is located in Chowringhee, the central business district of the city.
The 42 has reshaped the skyline of the Kolkata. Overlooking the Maidan and the Hooghly river, beyond dwarfing Tata Centre, Chatterjee International and Everest House that had dominated the skyline for over five decades.
“The construction of The 42 has been completed. At 268 metres, it is now the tallest building in India. It would have been the second-tallest had the additional four floors that were later sanctioned not been constructed,” said AN Shroff of Alcove Realty, one among the three companies that formed a consortium to develop the ultra-premium residential project.
The second tallest building in Kolkata is Urbana, at 167.6 meters. It is almost 100 meters shorter than ‘ The 42’. Among other buildings that are more than 150m tall are Forum Atmosphere and Westin, standing at 152m and 15m respectively.
Kolkata has 2nd most number of high-rise buildings in India.
