Not just that mobile phone. We all come in a box.
Unlike that mobile phone, though, we mustn’t be in a hurry to unbox ourselves. Because staying ‘in’, can often spell the difference between victory and defeat.
We’re free to think outside the box. Step outside its ‘comfort zone’, so to speak, to explore possibilities. But it’s vital that we learn to recognize its invisible structure. Feel its presence. Because it’s there. And it’s there not to hold us back, but to hold us up.
Iconic South African batsman AB de Villiers knew about the box. Few do, so it’s worth a mention. Even when we saw him stretching beyond his ‘limits’ (his fans may scream his crazy genius doesn’t have one) – stepping outside the off stump to swish the ball for another astonishing six over square leg – he was playing well within his ‘box’. The box that set him free to soar, at will.
Magic box? Not quite.
The box is merely our ‘zone’. The chassis we roll out of our respective showrooms on. The playground of our consciousness and sub-consciousness. The dugout we return to rest and roost after a hard fought game.
Our box sports the same shape as our mojo. It’s where we find ‘soulace’ by saying Hi to our soul.
Our inner box is the seat of our strength. It controls our resources, cocoons our weapons, carries our mantras. Check the reverse of the box, and you’ll clearly find the specs mentioned. Specs like resilience, grit, humility – the faculties we come factory fitted with. Each in a signature ratio, a bespoke flavour. When we play by those specs, we instantly connect with our cosmic warehouse (yes, each of us came from one). Not unlike registering a new gadget online on the manufacturer website. That’s when magic happens. The codes click. The passwords match. The circuit completes itself. The energy floodgates open. And we link with the universe of the infinite.
It’s important to spot the operative concept in the last paragraph : ‘When we play by those specs’. Yes, that’s the key. So listen deeply to the instructions. Our box is constantly sending us a stream – cautioning us to stop at the reds, consulting us to mull at the yellows, inspiring us to go at the greens.
Yesterday was different. The heady rush of victory may not spill over into today. The box lets us absorb that shock, adjust to the new reality, and find our lost spark.
The great news here? The box always has time and room for us (the reverse isn’t always true) when we’re down. All we have to do is recognize the signals – and step inside its ‘comfort zone’ for a pause that truly refreshes.
The box is nature’s great balancer, constantly checking on our emotional health ledge-balance to ensure that our self-image is in the pink. That we’re good to go.
When we align with our inner ‘box’, when we play along, we are at the peak of our powers. When we’re in disagreement, it’s time to have a conversation. When we part ways, it’s over.
So don’t unbox yourself. Stay in, to go big.
Think outside the box, but live inside it.
