Ben and Jerry’s to start selling CBD infused ice cream as soon as it becomes legal
Ben and Jerry’s has announced its plan to release a CBD infused ice cream as soon as the product becomes legalized in the US.
Currently, the United States, Food and Drug Administration prohibits the use of CBD in food and drink.
The FDA will hold its first public hearing on legalizing CBD in food beverages. Ben and Jerry submitted a comment to support legalization and encourage others to do the same.
CBD is made with cannabis but it will not get the consumer high
The regulator has said it plans to use the public comments to inform a federal working group looking ‘to explore potential pathways for dietary supplements and/or conventional foods containing CBD to be lawfully marketed’.
A message on the Ben and Jerry’s website says ”You probably already know that we’re fans of all things groovy. So it’s no surprise that we can’t wait to get into the latest food trend: cannabidiol, or CBD. We are committed to bringing CBD-infused ice cream to your freezer as soon as it’s legalised at the federal level.”
A recent survey published by the National Restaurant Association found that three in four chefs named CBD – and cannabis-infused food – as a hot trend in 2019.
CEO of Ben and Jerry’s, Matthew McCarthy, says that the company has devised a CBD infused ice cream in the light of high demand from the fans. We’ve listened and brought them everything from non-dairy indulgences to on-the-go portions with our pint slices.
“We aspire to love our fans more than they love us and we want to give them what they’re looking for in a fun, Ben and Jerry’s way.” He added.
