Yes, we know that Hopper supposedly died in Stranger Things 3 finale, and he will come back in the Season 4. But that doesn’t mean he’ll make it out alive in Season 4. Hopper will have a lot to lose. Eleven is the key to save the world. However, we have seen in the previous seasons that whenever she tried to close the Gate or kill the Mind Flayer, she almost died. This time, as in the finale, it will be one last time when she’ll get the chance to kill Mind Flayer and close the Gate. And she’ll die doing so.
There are other characters whose purpose will be justified by their death only. Steve is going through a character arc. He was an a-hole, and now he can do anything for his young friends. Will has been the host for Mind Flayer since the first season. Even after Mind Flayer left him, there was still some connection left there. It’s possible that Mind Flayer might make him a host again, and that’s not going to end well for Will.

Joyce is one of those characters who have suffered a lot in Stranger Things 4. Though watching his son die would be the worst of all, but she’ll live to see it all come to an end. Fans have demanded through various ways, a better fate for Joyce, and we thing Duffers are going to give her a happy life.
Mike, Lucas, and Dustin are the characters that are going to remain alive after Stranger Things 4 finale. Even though all these young heroes have been very much involved in the action, there seems no definite purpose for their characters to achieve by the end of the show.
