Netflix is betting big on its animated content. In its biggest renewal till date, Netflix has renewed the Nick Kroll and John Mulaney starring animated series, ‘Big Mouth’, for three more seasons.
As part of another multiyear deal that Netflix has signed with Brutus Pink, the animation production company behind the show, it will produce more animated films and series for the show.

- Are fans in for a surprise?
According to this pact, Kroll, Goldberg, Levin, and Flackett will continue working on ‘Big Mouth’, which could go beyond season 6, while creating new animated films and TV series through Brutus Pink which, “Deadline” said, are “adult, funny, and emotional”.
All about ‘Big Mouth’
‘Big Mouth’ debuted in 2017, as a show exploring the pros and cons of puberty, from the inconvenient first period to the uncontrollable emotions. The loud Netflix comedy features New York pre-teens – voiced by Mulaney and Kroll, along with a group of teens fumbling their way through puberty. “The Slant Magazine” has to say this about the show:
“‘Big Mouth’ never shies away from the pleasures and perversities of incipient sexuality, but perhaps most remarkable about the episode is how it handles young women’s bodies and desire: Deploying a surprise image of a dick for laughs is hardly a new trick for popular adult-oriented comedy, but the series breaks new ground in its willingness to base jokes around a girl’s talking, occasionally clapping vagina. Use your imagination”.
‘Big Mouth’ Season 3, which was released in October 2019, has a long, hormone-fueled future ahead of it. In a joint statement by Kroll, Goldberg, Levin, and Flackett, they said, “Netflix has given us the best creative experience imaginable, and we’ve been able to build an amazing community of talented writers, actors, producers and artists. We’re thrilled to be continuing with everyone for years to come”.
According to “Variety”, ‘Big Mouth’ takes major inspiration from Kroll’s and Goldberg’s childhood. Mike Moon, Head of Adult Animation for Netflix said, “‘Big Mouth’ brilliantly captures the most awkward phase in a person’s life, puberty, in a hilarious yet heartwarming way”. Mike also expressed his excitement to continue his relationship with Brutus Pink and bring more stories to life.
‘Big Mouth’ has always been popularly known to normalise and turn uncomfortable concepts of puberty like hormones, sex, emotion, shame, and depression into weirdly fantastic and relatable characters by personalising them.
Fans in for a surprise?
However, you can always count on ‘Big Mouth’ if you’re expecting a surprise. Season 3 received one episode as Valentine’s day special in February 2019, before the show’s season premiere.
In late March 2020, while the world was fighting COVID-19, the show’s creators came forward to liven things up with a table reading session of one of the episodes named, “How to have an orgasm”, over a zoom call, for all those fans who were eagerly waiting for season 4 of the show.
Alongside Kroll, there were a host of familiar faces like John Mulaney, Jessi Klein, Jason Mantzoukas, Jenny Slate, Maya Rudolph, Mark Duplass, Jessica Chaffin, Richard Kind, Paula Pell, Fred Armisen, and Paul Scheer, as well as series co-creator Andrew Goldberg.
The team together, over the course of half-an-hour, once again brought to life the episode that fans had enjoyed. The table reading session also served the purpose of raising money for “Feeding America”, a non-profit organization dedicated to helping feed Americans with the help of food banks, food pantries, shelters, and other community-based agencies.

Since ‘Big Mouth’ has always released seasons once a year, season 4 should arrive in fall, in late September or early October in 2020. Hence, it wouldn’t be entirely wrong for fans to expect the show to release during Christmas or Halloween and include a special episode for the same.
