TWD might be coming to an end, but nothing seems to stop its network AMC from producing new spin-off shows every now and then. Nonetheless, emotions are running high with the show’s upcoming 11th and final season. To say that spin-offs will suffice TWD’s conclusion, could be a cold response to a lot of fans’ disappointments.
AMC has ordered another ‘The Walking Dead’ spin-off, which is set to premiere soon. TWD franchises are expanding with a female-led ‘Walking Dead’ spin-off and focus on the first generation to grow up in the post-apocalyptic world. Some will rise to the status of hero. Some people will turn into villains. Ultimately, they will all be transformed for the better. Both positive and negative aspects of their personalities have been firmly established.

Two of AMC’s most popular shows, ‘The Walking Dead’ and ‘Fear The Walking Dead’, is based on Robert Kirkman’s comic book series of the same name. Both series are set in the months and years following a zombie apocalypse that follow various groups of survivors as they travel in search of a secure home.
The female-led ‘Walking Dead’ spin-off story
‘The Walking Dead’ creators Scott M. Gimple and Matt Negrete came up with the latest series in the franchise. For AMC, Gimple is in charge of the entire franchise, while Negrete is in charge of the new show. Two young female protagonists who focus on the first generation to come of age in the apocalypse, with heroes and villains alike, is the best way to describe ‘The Walking Dead’ spin-off.
When Sasha and Tyreese appeared in season 3, the idea of people taking refuge in a bunker for an extended period was initiated (but never elaborated upon). Before running out of supplies and having to move on, they’d spent the first few months of the end of the world in a neighbour’s bunker.
Two main characters who spent several years in a well-stocked bunker before confronting the harsh realities of the world could be depicted in the show’s origin story. They may have entered the bunker as infants and are now emerging as young adults who must acclimate to their new surroundings. There is a lot of potential for a new backstory in a bunker.
While most survival-based shows have protagonists, possessing these two new leads coming from a genuinely evil group would open up new territory for the genre. Alternatively, they may be the sole survivors of a huge war and be forced to start over in a new location if they realise that their current way of life is unsustainable.

Unlike the other ‘Walking Dead’ shows, this new series doesn’t have to follow the same path as the others. If there aren’t any crossovers between this new show and Fear TWD or TWD, they might begin in the near future (presumably 10-15 years from the present timeline) and show how far the globe has advanced since then.
Is there enough communication between cities and states to bring them back together? Is there a resurgence of American unity? As they reach their adolescent years in the post-apocalyptic world, these young adults will have the opportunity to think deeply about many important future issues.
What do the showrunners say?
For David Madden, president of programming of AMC Network, this female-led Walking Dead spin-off will be unlike any other:
“We’re thrilled that the Dead will keep walking into a new corner of the post-apocalyptic world, a corner that will present stories and characters unlike any that ‘The Walking Dead’ has dramatized thus far, and that is bound to excite one of the most passionate fan bases in television.”
When he took on the role of the chief content officer, Scott brought with him an innovative and unique ambition for the franchise. This original series will also be helmed by long-time TWD collaborator Matt, who has written many noteworthy episodes of the show over the past five years.
When will ‘The Walking Dead’ spin-off series release?
Now that it’s established that the upcoming ‘The Walking Dead’ spin-off is developed by TWD universe boss Scott Gimple, if what sources claim is true, the female-led ‘Walking Dead’ spin-off will premiere in 2023, with the two original cast members returning.
While announcing the news, Angela Kang expressed his thoughts by stating that it was “bittersweet to bring ‘The Walking Dead’ to an end”. Nonetheless, he is excited to be working with Gimple and AMC to develop a new series. She further went on to exclaim that “working with Norman Reedus and Melissa McBride has been a highlight” of her career, and that she is “thrilled” that the entire team gets to “keep telling stories together”.
