The first two seasons of Manifest were off to a rocky start. But its dedicated audience has just one question— Is Manifest coming back?
When Manifest premiered, 10 million viewers watched the pilot because of the heavy advertising done before the released, and the intriguing one-line premise: A plane that disappeared five years ago suddenly reappears and the passengers on board haven’t aged a day.
- Manifest is lost sometimes, and literally too
- What’s happened till now
- A season 3 in works?
Manifest is NBC’s endeavour into the world of mystery and thriller, and while the show feels a little lost to some of its viewers, there are certainly people who wish to keep coming back for more.
After two seasons and too many unanswered questions, the wait for season 3 keeps getting harder. What does the future hold for Manifest?
Manifest seems quite lost at times
One of the coolest things about Manifest is the premise, but the show stops being addictive after a while. It falls into a lull, a melodrama that is less about what the passengers are going through, and more about the mystery around the plane itself.
One universal truth that holds true for all TV shows is, if you can’t come to care for the characters in the show, the probability is that it’s not going to work. Having said that, Manifest does have its glory points and moments when you feel truly connected.
Taking inspiration from other NBC shows like Lost, Manifest works with a mixture of mythology, guess-work, and mystery, as the characters decipher lives post their plane reappearing.
What do we look forward to?
The pilot focuses on the Stone family’s unique situation, where a family’s life has turned upside down. The family has a set of twins, one of who was on the plane and came back not aging a day, after five years. Aunt Michaela, who is our protagonist, copes with her own struggles that include an ex-fiancé now married to her friend.
Perhaps the most interesting part of the show is that the people on the plane that went missing for five years return with subtle superhuman powers that they are still figuring out. Michaela, a cop, suddenly has psychic powers that help her solve crimes.
Her powers are in the form of voices she hears. One time, she insists that a bus driver slows down and that saves a child who runs out on the street. And hey, she saves some dogs too.
A season 3 is on its way
Manifest is definitely returning. The date for the official release is yet to be confirmed by NBC because Covid-19 has halted the shoot for season three in New York City, one of the worst-hit by the virus.
Season 3 of Manifest will likely pick up from the shocking finale of season 2, which saw Zeke Langdon escaping his death date, and Michaela and Ben dive deeper into the plane’s disappearance.
The next season will most likely show more passengers as they turn up to offer their experiences post the journey. Yet, the journey to season 3 looks like a long one that will take us straight into 2021.
