Umbrella Academy theories are almost endless. The show is basically made of open ends which even the original comic books can’t answer.
This is the last part of The Umbrella Academy Season 3 theory series.
We contemplated various theories in the first two parts and saved the best for the last. While we wait for Umbrella Academy season 3 for another year, we have too many questions on our mind – what happened to the Handler, is Ben really dead and more. Here are some speculations that lead to more head-scratching!
What’s up with the Handler?
Umbrella Academy’s The Handler is probably one of the best villains out there. Serving looks and sass throughout the series. Her presence always keeps you on edge and a lot of viewers have a lot of questions about her, the most persistent one being: How the hell is she not dead yet?
Everyone remembers how she was hit in the head by a bullet and still managed to survive. The explanation given in the show was that she had a metal plate in her brain but a lot of viewers think something else is in play here.
In Season 1, she stops time when she comes to talk to Five and till now, nobody has seen any other members of the commission stop time, which implies the Handler has natural powers.
This leads to the speculation if Handler was born on the same day as the siblings and aged due to the time travel.
Watch: The Umbrella Academy Season 3: What We know
What happened to Ben?
As per the show till now, Ben died on a mission when he was 13 or 14 years old. But if you look at the spirit of Ben, he looks as old as the rest of the siblings. So, how did his spirit age if he died when he was 14?
One theory is that Ben never died in that accident but he is taken by Reginald and kept away whilst comatose. There can be multiple reasons for this, one being Ben’s powers are summoning creatures from other dimensions, which seems, yeah, not a very safe power.
Another thing that we talked about in earlier articles is the relation between Ben and Reginald. In Season 2 of The Umbrella Academy, we see that Reginald turns into some otherworld creature, which sounds pretty similar to Ben’s powers.
It was also implied in the series that Reginald killed himself in order to get the siblings together to stop the end of the world. It’s possible that Reginald also pulled the plug on Ben when he realised he has to die himself or Ben killed himself.
The show’s disclaimer includes suicide but there’s no mention of it in the plot yet.
Time to say Grace
Grace is one of the most amiable characters of the season, probably because she’s a robot for half of it. It was a huge shock in season 2 when viewers discovered that Grace was indeed a real person and not a robot from the very beginning. Grace’s character has got to do a lot with Reginald’s character arc. She brings out the humane side of him.
We see in Season 2, that she leaves Reginald due to her apprehension of his involvement in assassinating John Kennedy. This might have had a huge impact on Reginald and hence change all his choices in the future, explaining the Sparrow Academy and not Umbrella Academy.
The Umbrella Academy is set to return in 2021. So, it’s quite a long wait. Apart from the titillating plot, the show has got some amazing aesthetics and very strong moods that can be attributed to each character. If you have noticed, the Umbrella Academy has an amazing music track, which you can find here.
