Not long after the release of The Vampire Diaries, The CW announced the premiere of its first spin-off series The Originals. Now, two years since its fifth season finale, fans want a season 6 to end things properly.
Debuting in 2013, The Originals is a supernatural drama series inspired from L.J. Smith’s book of the same name. The spin-off is set in New Orleans, which is built by the Mikaelson family, as seen in the parent series The Vampire Diaries.

Fans were displeased with how everything ended in the fifth season. It was quite evident that people had lost interest along the way. Can a season six make it up to unhappy fans and regain its lost fame for The Vampire Diaries universe? Read on to know more.
What was The Originals all about?
The series centers on Niklaus Mikaelson and the original family of vampires, who return to the French quarter of New Orleans, where they are reunited with their former apprentice Marcel.
With similar characters from its parent show, The Originals has two additional characters who are witches, and a human named Camille. Fascinated by the study of human behaviour, Camille is dead set on answering the unanswerable –what makes someone evil?
News of Hayley’s visit to the French quarter reaches Klaus and Elijah. The former is in town in search for clues to her family history but ends up falling into the hands of a powerful witch named Sophie. Meanwhile, tension between the supernatural groups begin to rise and are at a breaking point as Marcel commands his followers and rules with absolute power.
For Klaus, the thought of answering to his powerful protégé is unthinkable, and he vows to reclaim what was once his — the power, the city, and his family. While they wait to see if their sister Rebekah will leave Mystic Falls and join them, Klaus and Elijah form an uneasy alliance with the witches to ensure that New Orleans will be ruled by The Originals once again.
Fans want Julie Plec to tie up those loose ends
Following the release of The Originals, fans were sure that the new Julie Plec series would be as big a hit as its parent show.
But all went in vain when the show’s ratings began to plummet downhill, which resulted in an early end for the series. Ever since the show got cancelled, dedicated fans have taken to social media platforms to explain how they wish the show had ended.
“Done watching The Originals. And, what a sad ending. I don’t like how it ended! It can’t be! Please, new season for this. Change the ending. I only want the best for Hope and her being apart from her aunties and uncles… noooo” expressed @paatbingsoo on Twitter.
A fan on Reddit wrote, “I mean. I thought the Hollow could only be killed by the Labonair bloodline anyway? So why doesn’t Hope just kill herself and be reborn as a vampire? It just doesn’t make any sense. When Klaus kills himself for good, the Hollow just gets released again…But then again, knowing the writers, they’ve probably forgotten that part.”
“Josh got his happy ending with Aiden and I was so happy like vampires do have an afterlife happy ending. Sooo what about Klaus and Elijah’s happy ending? Klaus was what kept me and a lot of us into the show and he went out like that. I am so disappointed, words can’t describe. The plot of Hope even hiding her mom is stupid. I should have known then it was just going to get worse.” wrote another fan.
What is the release date update?
While announcing the premiere of season 5, show-runner Julie Plec also confirmed that the series has been cancelled and would not be returning for a sixth season. “Ending a show is always bittersweet, but for me, it’s a true blessing to be a part of making that choice,” she said in an online statement.
She further went on to say that there are future shows down that line that could tell good stories. “It’s a hope for the future if nothing else,” Plec added.
So, what does it mean for fans hoping for a sixth season? Considering there are a lot of shows that have had new reboots and unexpected revivals, there is still a possibility for the creators and the network to think about renewing the show for a season 6. A renewal would most definitely give the showrunners a chance to make it up to fans who were very disappointed at how it all ended.
