Will fans of the famous trio – Moss, Roy, and Jen – get to see them once again in season 5 of ‘The IT Crowd’?
Written by Graham Linehan, ‘The IT Crowd‘ was a simplistic comedy that revolved around the three main characters of the Information Technology department in the Reynholm Industries. The computer department was staffed by Roy (Chris O’Dowd), Moss (Richard Ayoade), and Jen (Katherine Parkinson). While the rest of the company worked upstairs in phenomenal surroundings, these three had been excluded to the dark basement.

Is ‘The IT Crowd’ Season 5 cancelled?
Creator Graham Linehan spoke to fans about season 5 of ‘The IT Crowd’ on Reddit.
“I’ll say right off the bat … the bad news is no IT Crowd Series 5. The good news is an extended special next year called … actually I won’t tell you the title because you’ll end up imagining better storylines than the one I’ve written”
Said Linehan.
He further explained that the chief reason was the fact that he was not looking forward to it the way he used to. Hence, he felt that the last series of ‘The IT Crowd’ was a nice strong point to go out on, and anything else might just be running on the spot. Linehan added that you do not do your best work when you are running on the spot.
It also felt like a natural time to wind things down for him. Apart from this, the crew and makers were reaching a stage where it began to feel odd that Roy, Jen, and Moss are still stuck down in that basement. He did not want to start giving everybody babies to make it feel like they are moving on with their lives.
Creator Graham Linehan’s kind of comedy has always been setpiece-driven and that naturally had a short life. Linehan did three series of ‘Father Ted’, ‘Black Books’, and ‘Big Train’. So he felt a personal sense of achievement that ‘The IT Crowd’ made it to series 4, especially as it gave him two of his favourite episodes: “Jen The Fredo” and “Final Countdown”.

In the end, he concluded that there just wasn’t much in his idea file that topped those episodes, and he likes to go into a series feeling that he has some big moments lined up.
‘The IT Crowd’ remake
The hilarious comedy of ‘The IT Crowd’ will be back once again. Creator Graham Linehan will be partnering with US broadcaster NBC for reprising the classic British Channel 4 sitcom series. It will be NBC’s third attempt.
After the huge success of ‘The IT Crowd’, an American remake was promptly produced by NBC in 2007. The pilot starred Joel McHale, Jessica St. Claire, and Richard Ayoade who reprised his role as Maurice Moss. Unfortunately, the American remake was heavily criticized by the audience. After seven years, in 2014, the network again attempted to adopt another remake of the ‘The IT Crowd’. Bill Lawrence, Neil Goldman, and Garrett Donovan worked together to bring the remake on-screen. But the project failed to get a television release.
According to “Variety”, NBC will once again attempt at remaking the British sitcom ‘The IT Crowd’ for the American audience. For the first time, the original series creator Graham Linehan will write and executively produce the remake that revolves around the employees of an IT department who work in a huge corporation. Patrick Daly and Jon Rolph will also executively produce the sitcom series alongside Linehan. Universal Television will be producing the US version of ‘The IT Crowd’. However, no information has been shared till now about who will play the central characters or if any major script changes will be made to the series.
What is the release date of ‘The IT Crowd’ Season 5?
Currently, the makers of ‘The IT Crowd’ have not confirmed the release date of its American remake or any news around season 5 of the show.
Since the filming of many shows has been halted by the coronavirus pandemic, we can expect an announcement soon. The popular trio of actors Richard Ayoade, Chris O’Dowd, and Katherine Parkinson will probably not be available to reprise their roles on the American version of ‘The IT Crowd’. However, the makers are yet to share who they wish to cast in place of them.
