The Troubles were an Ethno-nationalist conflict in Northern Ireland starting from 1960s and ending with the Good Friday Agreement in 1998. Over the years conflict became Protestants (pro-UK) vs Catholics (pro-Ireland).
In season 1, Derry Girls attend Catholic girls’ secondary school along with James who is the only male student in the Girl’s school. From part-time jobs to Virgin Mary hoax the kids create havoc and often land in a soup. Not just normal teenage troubles, Derry girls (including James) ensemble go loose in tough historic times of Chernobyl Disaster, Orange Walks and of course The Troubles. Silly as well as quick-witted and accidentally rebellious more often makes Derry Girls irresistible.
What is common between Protestants and Catholics? Erin has the answer- PARENTS! Season 2 started with a blast, this time they break the statue, flee homes to attend a concert, await US President Visit, troubled people around and got themselves in trouble.
Overwhelming confidence even when the inside is tormented, the Derry Girls take on the world head-on with no second-guessing. If you haven’t watched, then catch yourself on.
Plot prediction: Derry Girls season 3
You’re lying if you haven’t noticed the blooming romance between Erin and James. Now that he has returned to the gang, we can expect some love sequences around them.
Derry Girls season 3 will this time move to the final piece in Northern Ireland with Good Friday Agreement.
Liza McGee said in April 2019,
“I’m just thinking about storylines at the minute. I have a political back story I want to do. It’s a bit scary, but I’ll have to start writing things down soon.
Adding further she said,
“We’ll continue from ’95, so it was very different for us then, for one thing, all these splinter organizations came out of nowhere, which was quite strange, and then people were getting used to peacetime.
“I think I had more to lose, and not we want it to be wrong because it was something we all really wanted. It was something everyone feared for the dream, and then it was happening, so it’s scary to think about losing it. ”
There are reports that the Derry Girls season 3 will be the wrap of the series. No official announcement has been made yet and we would not like to hear any such news in the offing. We hope they come, they entertain and come again!
