‘Ozark’ returns for its fourth and final season, and we’re hyped to know how the Byrde family will finally manoeuvre through the underworld.
‘Ozark’ is a crime thriller with a stunning cast of top-ranked actors. All the characters on the show come in with raw explosiveness. Their roles and emotions carry through so dexterously that they become seemingly real.
Highlights —
- ‘Ozark’ returns for its fourth and final season with Netflix.
- ‘Ozark’ Season 4 to be longer than the initial seasons.
- Who will return from the original cast of ‘Ozark’?
What makes the cast so multi-dimensional is knowing the lead actor, Jason Bateman, only for his previous comedy roles. Jason Bateman plays Marty Byrde – a modest, thoughtful financial planner that is caught up in the struggle of making the right choices. Laura Linney plays his wife Wendy Byrde – a more complex, messed-up character who is ambitious. And then there is Julia Garner with an equally predominant role as Ruth.
The show gives you enough reasons to feel all the love and hate for thesecharacters due to its plot involving corrupt Wall Street advisors and dangerous cartel drug dealers. It keeps your excitement and tension levels on an all-time high.
The grim solemnity of this crime drama has a lot to do with the direction and cinematography. The world of ‘Ozark’ is gloomy and sombre with pale blue and dull green palettes, making the viewer step out of their world and into the show.

Since its launch in 2017, it has scored 14 Emmy nominations with two wins. It also earned two Golden Globe nominations and six Screen Actors Guild nominations.
Another ‘Breaking Bad’?
Many viewers often compare ‘Ozark’ to ‘Breaking Bad’ and, in some semblance, we see why. Both protagonists are honest men who are coerced into a situation they otherwise would not be associated with. They both have families and their lives are twisted in a criminal scheme. There’s also the factor of the complicated accomplice, money, and drugs. Both first seasons in both shows also unravel slowly and steadily, with the characters evolving at every turn.

Bye, Bye Byrde!
On June 30, 2020, Netflix had officially announced that ‘Ozark’ will return for its fourth and final season, giving it a final chance to explore the Byrde family’s end through their role with the underworld. ‘Ozark’ fans had mixed emotions when they found out that ‘Ozark’ would get another season due to its clause but that ‘Ozark’ Season 4 will be the last.
“Collider” asked Jason Bateman in an interview, “When you first signed on, did you have any sort of idea of how many seasons you guys wanted to do and the overall arc for the characters?” In response, Jason Bateman stated, “I think there’s always been the presumed area of three seasons, four seasons, five seasons, something like that. (‘Ozark’) was never going to be a limited series of just 10 episodes. I don’t think anybody thought it was going to be something that we would want to end in 20 episodes.”
“Deadline” summarised that the show will be back with its final season in two instalments of seven-episode parts, reaching a total of 14 episodes. It will continue with Chris Mundy as the showrunner, writer, and executive producer. In a conversation about what ‘Ozark’ Season 4 will hold for the Byrde family, Chris Mundy told “Deadline”, “A super-sized season means super-sized problems for the Byrdes. I’m excited to end with a bang.” He also added, “We’re so happy that Netflix recognized the importance of giving ‘Ozark’ more time to end the Byrdes’ saga right. It’s been such a great adventure for all of us — both on-screen and off — so we’re thrilled to get the chance to bring it home in the most fulfilling way possible.”
In another conversation with “Entertainment Weekly” on what to expect if ‘Ozark’ returns for its fourth and final season, he stated “(‘Ozark’ Season 4) will be about whether or not Ruth [Garner] really can create something of her own that she wants and is sustainable, or if she wants something else. And I think it will be about if the Byrdes can turn the biggest mistake of their lives into this huge advantage, and how much will karma catch up with them if they do.”

Jason Bateman as Marty Byrde along with his wife Laura Linney as Wendy Byrde, their kids – Sofia Hublitz as Charlotte Byrde, and Skylar Gaertner as Jonah Bryde, Julia Garner as Ruth Langmore, Charlie Tahan as Wyatt Langmore, and Lisa Emery as Darlene Snell.
