What can we expect from season 8 of ‘Brooklyn Nine-Nine’?
The seventh and latest season of the popular show ‘Brooklyn Nine-Nine’ aired in February this year and concluded in April. The seventh season provided its millions of fans some much-needed entertainment during the coronavirus lockdown. However, soon after the end of season 7, there were calls for the show to pivot in light of the Black Lives Matter protests, springing up all over the United States, in reaction to the death of George Floyd. The protests focused on the rising cases of police brutalities against African-Americans, and so the show has come under some flack as it is set in a precinct of the NYPD, one of the most infamous police departments when it comes to cases of police brutality. The show received some of its highest ratings ever in the last season and the renewal comes as no surprise. In the upcoming season 8, fans can expect to see major personality changes in Jake Peralta as he steps up to fatherhood and tries not to let Amy down.
What did Terry Crews say about season 8?
The entire cast and production team of the show have come out in support of the recent protests and expressed their grievance at the death of George Floyd. However, that has not prevented them from getting their share of criticism. The criticism mainly being their reluctance to portray the harassment of African-American men at the hands of police officers in their show.
In response to this, Terry Crews said, “The showrunner, Dan Goor, had four episodes, all of them ready to go and they just threw them in the trash. We have to start over. Right now we don’t know which direction it’s going to go. We’ve had a lot of sombre talks about it and deep conversations and we hope through this we’re going to make something that will be truly groundbreaking this year. We have an opportunity and we plan to use it in the best way possible.”
When will season 8 come out?
As things stand currently, the entire script of season 8 of ‘Brooklyn Nine-Nine’ will be rewritten. This has come as a major setback for the show’s new season as things are already in a rut due to the current coronavirus situation. Filming has come to a halt and all productions are stagnant. Before that, NBC had said in a statement that the 8th season will be ready by late 2020. It seems now that fans might have to wait a bit longer for their favourite show’s return.
