When a successful TV show like The Vampire Diaries comes up with two successful spin-offs, people are likely going to wonder which one tops the list for being the best. We may have an answer for you. Read on to know more.
When The Vampire Diaries ended, it left behind a legacy, which very few thought could ever be matched with. But the show which ended almost a decade ago has carried its legacy as well as the characters well into the two-spinoff shows Legacies and The Originals.
- Legacies has drama but no melodrama
- Better representation is what makes Legacies work
- The vampire world is finally having fun
And even though Legacies is a newer arrival, both Vampire Diaries and The Originals are up for some solid competition as the show is ready to replace as the best show in the franchise.
So, if you’re a fan of the original two shows or looking for a new-vampire themed show to fall in love with, this will convince you why Legacies is the obvious choice for it.
Legacies has drama but not melodrama
If you’re a fan of The Vampire Diaries and The Originals, you’re aware that those shows operated on a heavy dose of melodrama. Whether it was family-drama for Elena or friendly feud between Damon or Stefan or the love triangle between the three, the show was replete with more than just action.
Stefan never accepted that he was not a human and spent the majority of the time brooding at his misfortune. Of course, there was also Damon just looking to make sure that his baby brother never had a good time.
But Legacies offers a fresh new take cutting away from the burden of excess emotional drama and rather spends its time focusing on Alaric and Hope and rest of the gang. And with a fresh new take on the vampire world, it is exactly the level of light-heartedness that year 2020 begs of it.
Although the shows preceding Legacies lagged in humour, this show has made up for it in wit and charm. Whether it’s the funny-one liners or the equation that the students of Salvatore School of Young and Gifted share, you can always expect a good time.
Better representation makes Legacies work
Long gone are the days when heterosexuality was the accepted norm in mainstream television. More and more shows are being called out for not being diverse enough with LGBTQ+ issues, for an audience that certainly is.
Legacies has been both an entertaining show while also paving the way by being responsible with what they offer to their young fans. One of the main characters of the show, Josie, flirts with a boy, points at a girl saying she’s her evil ex, and even seems attracted to a werewolf.
So, fans have come to the conclusion that Josie is clearly a pansexual with the pilot episode even stating that “Binary assumptions about sexuality are dated.” (We are here for it!)
The vampire world is finally having fun
The Vampire Diaries featured supernatural adolescents fighting to suppress their powers and The Originals followed ancient supernatural creatures who were too bogged down by the end-of-the-world matters to ever really enjoy their immense powers.
But the teens in Legacies are a whole different case. They are not afraid to test their powers and even have a little fun with them. Where else will you see kids with supernatural powers taking drugs and playing a game of Quidditch?
So, if light-hearted dramas with a touch of supernatural are your cup of tea, then look no further than Legacies. Before the show drops its highly anticipated Season 3, I’d suggest you binge-watch the first two.
