One of BBC’s biggest shows ever made, and incredibly popular, ‘Sherlock’ could be back in the near future. As always, during a pandemic, and with A-list stars such as Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman, arranging schedules is a challenge, but it is already enough for the fans to be hopeful.
‘Sherlock’ is a British television series based on Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s Sherlock Holmes stories. It was created by Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss. Benedict Cumberbatch plays Sherlock Holmes and Martin Freeman plays the iconical Dr John Watson.

Was confirmation given for Sherlock?
BBC would not hold down ‘Sherlock’ if they did not have big reasons to do so.But it seems like the whole network, production, and cast, are still motivated to have a new ‘Sherlock’ season in the future. Fans are waiting for a position from BBC since 2017 and it seems like that wait could be getting to an end.

Many media outlets, such as “Digital Weekly”, are saying that ‘Sherlock’s’ new season could be coming out in 2022.
The only issue is that the BBC is having a hard time managing all of its shows. The will of having a season 5 of ‘Sherlock’, plus the pandemic, made it even harder for BBC to decide if a show like ‘Sherlock’ would be a good option to be back in the future. Fans are probably happy after hearing that both detectives could be back on the screens in the near future.
What have the cast and production said about a possible season 5?
On the other side, fans are upset that ‘Sherlock’ won’t be back in 2021. Yes, that is right! According to the production, there are no predictions for ‘Sherlock’ to be back anytime soon this year.
The fun fact about all of this situation is that the crew, the cast, and the BBC, seem to be excited about its comeback. Martin Freeman, in an interview with “Collider”, said that
“They are few and far between, the way the story went, in the last series, felt like, if not a full stop, then certainly a semicolon or an ellipse. It felt like a pause”.
This statement makes it clear that the cast, or part of it, sees the storyline as the main motivation for them to be or not to be back for season 5.
There are no official release dates or official statements, but it seems like if the writers are able to find a great way to continue the story, at least Dr John Watson would be willing to fight against criminals again, but not before 2022.
