That’s right! We’re going all-in and placing all our bets on Sheldon Cooper as the most romantic character on The Big Bang Theory.
Fans of TBBT can vouch for one fact – they never imagined Sheldon falling in love and being all mushy in his conventional way. While some fans believe that Leonard and Penny were the ultimate couple goals for them, there is no denying that when it came to romance, Sheldon and Amy were everything the show needed. If we were to give an award to the most romantic character on ‘The Big Bang Theory’, it would certainly go to Sheldon Cooper. Do you doubt our choice? We assure you there is reason enough! When Sheldon finally accepted his feelings for Amy
Sheldon and Amy first met on an online dating site when they were interestingly paired as a “perfect match”. Had it not been for Howard and Raj, Shamy (Sheldon+Amy) probably wouldn’t have ever happened. But, of course, the show is a work of fiction, and boy, are we glad the showrunners created this storyline.
The duo’s first date certainly was a memorable episode, especially with Penny being the third wheel. While Amy didn’t take too much time to call him her “kinda-sorta-boyfriend”, Sheldon only considered Amy as “She’s a girl and she’s my friend, but she’s not my girlfriend”. Many episodes later, it finally took one date between Stuart and Amy for Sheldon to accept his feelings; eventually leading him to ask Amy to be his girlfriend.
Oh, coitus!
We all know Sheldon had his way of expressing his love for his girl. Fans of the show will agree that over the years, Cooper began to make small yet impactful changes that would suit him and everyone around him. The 31 pages relationship agreement, which Amy thought was pretty romantic, certainly was a major step forward for the confessed germaphobe, as it brought him to agree to hold hands, kiss, and more. YES, the most notable moment was when they did ‘it’.
In the “The Opening Night Excitation” episode, Sheldon decides to skip the premiere of the new StarWars movie to be with Amy on her birthday which leads to Sheldon and Amy’s consummating their relationship. If that isn’t romantic enough, then we don’t know what is. (Basically everything and anything that Shelly has done to make Amy feel special!)
Popping the question
Seeing Sheldon making all these adjustments to keep Amy happy, was perhaps the sweetest gesture on the show. Whether it was admitting to being in love, agreeing to move in together, making an effort for their date nights, taking care of his girlfriend when she was sick, or simply making it up to her when he realized he hasn’t done enough, Sheldon checked all the boxes to be called a perfect romantic.
Showrunners of the series gave fans their much-awaited ultimate “aww” moment when Sheldon hopped on a plane to New Jersey to propose to the love of his life. So, how exactly did that pan out?
Throughout the series, Dr. Romana Nowitzki would tend to throw herself at Sheldon intending to give indirect hints that she had a huge crush on him. In the first episode of season eleven, Nowitzki planted a surprise kiss on Shelly that was a complete bolt from the blue. That was a big eye-opener for Sheldon. He immediately left to see Amy and, before anyone knew it, he was outside her door, kneeling on one knee with a beautiful ring in his hands.
