‘Better Call Saul’: “[It]’s all good, man!”
After the tremendous success of ‘Breaking Bad’, the makers of the show decided to develop its crime thriller, legal drama spin-off with the character of Saul Goodman in the lead. Initially, fans weren’t sure what to expect from this prequel, however, the more they watched it, the more they realized that the showrunners were really onto something big.
‘Better Call Saul’ takes you on the journey of a con-man and eventual lawyer, Jimmy McGill (Bob Odenkirk) becoming a big-time criminal, Saul Goodman. With future wife, corporate lawyer, Kim Wexler (Rhea Seehorn) by his side at all times, Saul is seen going deeper and deeper into the world of crime, becoming a known drug trafficker in the underworld. The character was first introduced in season 2 of ‘Breaking Bad’ for some comic relief. But its popularity with the fans and Odenkirk’s smashing performance compelled the creators to give him his own show. The character of Kim Wexler too was supposed to be short-lived but Seehorn’s portrayal of the complex character blew everyone away and made her a parallel lead.
This has been the power of the series. It has given the cast and crew incredible material to work with, making the show better with every passing season.
‘Better Call Saul’ Season 5: Where did it end?
Season 5 of the AMC series has established two main plotlines– the face-off between Kim and Howard Hamlin (Patrick Fabian), and the showdown against Lalo Salamanca (Tony Dalton). The last scene sees Gus Fring’s attack fail as Lalo loses his mother in a murder attempt that was meant to be on his life. Dalton, while talking about the future of his character, said, “Lalo has vengeance in his eyes and is heading north for revenge”.
The character of Nacho Varga (Michael Mando) is also seen in serious trouble in season 5 and will have his fate finally decided in the upcoming season. So, which characters will make it out alive? Are more ‘Breaking Bad’ characters headed to ‘Better Call Saul’? Here’s what we know.
‘Better Call Saul’ Season 6 finale: Walter White to make an appearance?
Peter Gould recently hinted at the possibility of Walter and Jesse appearing in the final season. He went on record to say, “We have an idea of where we think we go, we have an idea of the end to come, we have an idea for the characters that may or may not return as Walt and Jesse”.
He further said, “You don’t want to completely hold to these ideas because things can change. And if the history of the detours that make it impossible for the return of some beloved characters, we will not return. We want to have a story that makes sense and which does not solely depend on these references”.
Season 6 will be seeing Kim doing everything in her power to take down Howard Hamlin. Fans are worried about Kim’s fate considering that she was nowhere to be seen in its sequel, ‘Breaking Bad’. Also, Nacho will likely be killed since he was not a character in ‘Breaking Bad’ and Lalo, being out for blood, doubts him for his failed assassination attempt. Fans are also speculating appearances from Dean Norris’s Hank as well as Steven Michael Quezada. Fans are taking a sigh of relief since everyone already knows that their favourite anti-hero, Saul Goodman, will stay alive and well, but will it be all worth it? Odenkirk revealed the character’s plight saying, “Jimmy is in a vulnerable place. He’s in a weak and uncertain and frightened place inside”.
With the final season being right around the corner, fans can’t wait to see what the finale has in store for them. So will Saul and Kim get a happy ending? Will Nacho make it out alive? Will Kim win against Hamlin? We’ll be finding out very soon.
