Is ‘Schitt’s Creek’ a real place?
Schitt’s Creek is a town of quaint surroundings, few businesses, and very few places of interest. While most of the town is just open fields and wooded areas, there are some prominent hangout spots. The Rosebud Motel, Bob’s Garage, Cafe Tropical, and the Rose Apothecary!
The mayor of the town, Roland Schitt, might have an uncouth personality, but the rest of its residents are kind! They’re hard-working and eager to offer a helping hand to anyone in need. While the town is said to be based on small Canadian towns, it largely is a figment of the creator’s imagination.
Most of the sitcom’s interior scenes were shot in studios across the city of Toronto, but there’s more! There’s a town that served as a lot more than just inspiration. Godwood, a small town north of Toronto, had their buildings transformed for the exterior scenes in ‘Schitt’s Creek’. It has become a tourist hotspot for fans of the series, who are flocking to the Canadian town to experience ‘Schitt’s Creek’ in person!
There’s another town that inspired the series
You can’t visit Schitt’s Creek (because, of course, it’s fictional) but you can visit the places that inspired it! Sharon Springs is a little town in the middle of nowhere, and you’ll be surprised to hear the similarities between both.
One of the most popular stores in the town is Mercantile 1802, which seems to be the inspiration for Rose Apothecary. The real store is owned and operated by a same-sex male couple, much like David and Patrick! They’re reported to sell local items and also own a goat farm, which they use to make soap.
Earlier this year, the store owners partnered with the series to pull off an epic transformation. They rearranged the store’s products, changed the signboards, and turned it into a real-life Rose Apothecary. Naturally, fans flocked to the town, and Sharon Springs is a great place to be now!
Where is the Rosebud Motel from ‘Schitt’s Creek’?
In the comedy series, the former affluent family moves to a motel in an unknown town, later renamed to the Rosebud Motel. It has been making fans wonder if there really is a similar motel somewhere in a quaint Canadian town like it! The good news is: there is! The Rosebud Motel building is on Hockley Road in Orangeville, Ontario. The cast and crew rented the building for a month each year during filming. It has now become a spot for die-hard ‘Schitt’s Creek’ fans!
The building was formerly a motel until the owner, a president of a high school basketball program, started using it as housing for new recruits. Online sources report that the building will be on sale in the next few months, but that won’t stop fans from popularising the building with photos shared to social media.
