Not sure if The Marvels and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania swapping release dates with each other is good news or a bad one.
Captain Marvel’s sequel, The Marvels was scheduled for 17th February 2023, while the third edition in the Ant-Man franchise, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania was scheduled for 28th July 2023. But, it was recently announced by Disney that both the movies will swap their release dates.
Why did Quantumania and The Marvels swap their release dates?
Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, the third film in the Ant-man franchise was supposed to hit the theatres on 28th July 2023, while Captain Marvel’s sequel Captain Marvel 2 or The Marvels was supposed to come out on 17th February 2023. But, this “was” supposed to happen before Disney came up with the big announcement.
Disney announced that the two movies will swap their release dates, i.e. we will get to see Ant-Man earlier than one of the strongest Avengers, Captain Marvel. Insider reports suggest that the swapping happened as Quantumania is a step ahead of The Marvels concerning production.
According to Insiders, Ant-Man’s third part is way too ahead of Captain Marvel’s sequel in the creative process. The former has completed all the principal photography parts while the latter has a lot left.
Jonathan Majors will return with the Ant-Man franchise
Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania is one of the most anticipated projects as it will continue the story set in Loki’s first season. After all, it is where it all started with Jonathan Majors’ He Who Remains whose death actually created the multiverse.
So, Kang, the Conqueror will play the main antagonist in the movie when the entire Ant-Man family goes back to the quantum realm. Apart from Majors, Quantumania will star Paul Rudd, Michael Douglas, Evangeline Lilly, Kathryn Newton, and Michelle Pfieffer.
The Marvels will cross paths with WandaVision and Ms Marvel
The Marvels is expected to cross paths with two Marvel projects – WandaVision and the upcoming Ms Marvel. WandaVision introduced Teyonah Parris as the adult version of Monica Rambeau, while Ms Marvel will introduce Iman Vellani’s Captain Marvel’s biggest fan (Kamala Khan).
Apart from Parris and Vellani, Brie Larson will reprise her role as Captain Marvel and Sam Jackson as Nick Fury. Also, The Marvels will star Park Seo-joon and Zawe Ashton in some undisclosed roles.
All the Marvel projects are connected
Some MCU fans are sceptical that the swapping of release dates of two Marvel projects somewhat points in the direction that these two movies are not that closely knit or are not a part of an unbreakable sequence like other ongoing Marvel projects.
This writer believes that this cannot be the case with Marvel Cinematic Universe, especially after the multiversal doors are opened. The entire multiverse thing is going to get even crazier with Doctor Strange of the Multiverse of Madness coming on 6th May. Now, with all of this going on, we believe that the movies and characters are going to be more closely related and detailed than ever before.
So, now according to the updated dates Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania will hit the theatres on February 17, 2023, and then The Marvels will come out on July 28, 2023. Amidst these two movies, there’s one more Marvel project coming out i.e. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.3 will also hit the theatres in 2023 on 5th May.
