The sci-fi show that soothed our inner Astrophiles
Based on the 1815 novel, The Swiss Family Robinson, it is a remake of the 1965 series of the same name by Irwin Allen. The creators of the show have already given a green nod to the season 3 of the show, after which, it wraps up for good.
Have a look at the official announcement here.
Set 30 years ahead in time, the show primarily hovers around the Robinson’s family, and their adventures post the colonisation of space on an aircraft called the Jupiter 2.
The Netflix Original stars Molly Parker (House of Cards), Toby Stephens (Black Sails), Maxwell Jenkins (Sense8), Taylor Russell (Waves), Mina Sundwall (Maggie’s Plan), Ignacio Serricchio (Bones) and Parker Posey (Dazed and Confused). Zack Estrin, Kevin Burns, Jon Jashni, Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless all serve as executive producers on the show.
Apart from the remakes we mentioned earlier, the show was also remade into a movie in 1998, starring William Hurt, Matt Leblanc, Gary Oldman, and Heather Graham. Though it was no less than a failure at that time, the movie has gained pretty high acclaim lately.
Netflix all set to launch the third season
The third season was bound to happen because of fan reaction to the previous two. Even before Netflix announced the official renewal of the show, the creators were already working on it.
Show-runner Zack Estrin revealed that the series was always intended to end with season 3. In an announcement, he said,
“From the beginning, we’ve always viewed this particular story of The Robinsons as a trilogy.”
Apart from this, Estrin has also signed another deal with Netflix, through which he will be developing more projects for the streaming giant. Speaking of the Netflix pact, he added,
“So while this chapter of Lost In Space is coming to a rousing conclusion, I’m excited about continuing to explore new stories with my friends at Netflix, and for all of the incredible possibilities that lie ahead.”
When is it set to appear on our screens?
The third part of the Robinson Family Saga is all set to drop on our screens anytime in 2021.
Ted Biaselli, director of originals at Netflix said that he is thrilled to share more adventures of the Robinson family and see their journey through to what is sure to be an epic finale.
“We’re especially thankful to Zack Estrin [and fellow exec producers] Matt Sazama, Burk Sharpless, Kevin Burns and Jon Jashni for helming Lost in Space, which has brought viewers a premium action-packed and visually spectacular series that the whole family can enjoy together, and we can’t wait for our family audiences to see where season three will lead,” he added,
After the season 1 of the show arrived, it took Netflix a month to give a green light to the sci-fi saga and 19 months after that for the show to arrive. If we consider this to be the turnaround for season 3, then the show can hit the screens anytime between August or September 2021.
