The Coolest Baby-Sitters in Stonybrook
Netflix’s ‘The Baby-Sitters Club’ is a brilliant adaptation of the classic young adult novel series of the same name by Ann M. Martin. Adapting a classic into something that would have the same effect as the original is not an easy feat. Anyway, we’ll just let it out: Creator Rachel Shukert has done an amazing job! If you have been obsessed with the book series by Martin as a ‘90s kid, nothing would stop you from consuming this show at one sitting. It is that good!
‘The Baby-Sitters Club’ follows the adventures of a bunch of middle school teenagers –Kristy, Claudia, Stacey, Mary Anne, and Dawn. Set in the town of Stonybrook in Connecticut, these five seven graders initiate The Baby-sitters Club as they set up their babysitting business. The story moves around the delightful lives of these best friends as they deal with middle school, family issues, friendships and boys. Season 1 of the show ended by introducing two new characters –Mallory and Jessi –from Martin’s book series leaving the fans hopeful for a second season.
Martin’s book series originally consists of 131 books, which leaves the creators with plenty of areas to explore. Taking this for granted, fans have already made their demands clear. A fan wrote on “Twitter”, “I demand a season 2 of the babysitters club. There are several hundred books, u cant possibly run out of stories.” Another fan wrote, “If @netflix doesn’t renew #babysittersclub for a Season 2, we riot at dawn.” Clearly, the fans are not keeping their feelings a secret in demanding ‘The Baby-Sitters Club’ Season 2 and Netflix had better hear it!
The Cast Reveal their Ideas for the Next Season
Like most of us ‘90s kids, the cast of ‘The Baby-Sitters Club’ have been fans of the books series as well. Shay Rudolf, the actor who plays Stacey, said to “Popsugar”, “I want to stay with the other BSC girls and have fun babysitting adventures and make more memories on set!” According to the books, Stacey moves to the New York City and as much as we would like her to stay back, only the writers know what’s in store for her.
The ‘Clueless’ star, Alicia Silverstone plays Kristy’s mother, Elizabeth, in the show. Speaking to “EW” she said, “Mainly I was just really excited to read a script that was female-driven and that was super positive and modern, and based on a story that so many people love. The show makes my heart so happy when I watch it.” ‘The Baby-Sitters Club’ is nostalgia given to us on a plate and a season 2 would just be the cherry on the top.
