Priyanka Chopra’s popularity is prospering day-by-day owing to her American TV-series ‘Quantico’. But what went down in ‘Quantico’ Season 3, and what happened to the characters of Jake McLaughlin and Johanna Braddy? Will there be a ‘Quantico’ spin-off? Let’s take a dig at all the details and latest news.
Priyanka Chopra-starrer ‘Quantico’ cancelled after three seasons and 57 episodes on ABC. The terrorism drama on ABC will not have a fourth season. However, will there be a ‘Quantico’ spin-off, at least. Fans really hope so. The show was a breakout when it first debuted in 2015. But what led the makers of ‘Quantico’ to end the show in a jiffy?
- The show’s low rating
- Priyanka’s packed schedule
- Other reasons responsible for the show’s cancellation
With its crammed narrative and excessive serialization, the series started to lose momentum in the second half of its second season. Also, the show continued to see its downfall through season 2 and 3, and as much as fans of the show want it, a ‘Quantico’ spin-off may not be the best idea right now.
The show’s low-ratings
Three episodes into its third season, ‘Quantico’ had an average rating of 0.5 in the 18-49 demographic with 2.3 million viewers, as reported by Nielson. Furthermore, it was draining capital from a financial standpoint.
The ‘Quantico’ Season 3 final episode happened to be a big showdown between Alex Parrish and Connor Devlin, shot in Ireland. ABC went all-out to make this show a massive hit by lopping in Priyanka Chopra who is extremely popular overseas. Consequently, they thought they found their next-big marketable star.
Created by Joshua Safran the cast also included Russell Tovey, Quantico’s Shelby Wyatt – Johanna Braddy , Quantico’s Ryan Booth – Jake McLaughlin, Marlee Matlin, Alan Powell and Blair Underwood.
Alex Parrish (Priyanka Chopra) has quit the CIA for three years of harmonious anonymity in Italy. Now, though, Ryan (Jake McLaughlin) persuades her to help save Shelby (Johanna Braddy) from a blatant international arms dealer known only as The Widow. They draft Harry (Russell) and Owen (Blair) to their cause. Owen loops in Jocelyn Turner (Marlee), who has a history with The Widow. Together, they form a whole new black-ops squad.
‘Quantico’ had a lot of self-inflicted wounds in Season 1 and 2. It had a lot of ambitious ideas, but it got way too complicated, and for this reason, it started to lose its viewers. In that sense, it failed to keep the audiences hooked to the show.
The numbers continued to narrow down where-in even Chopra’s international appeal, and ABC’s production house backing couldn’t save the series from getting axed. With declining numbers and depreciating viewership, Chopra’s ‘Quantico’ died a slow death.
While fans are hopeful that a less complicated, more singularly focused ‘Quantico’ spin-off might be able to save the day for the show and its cast, there doesn’t seem to be much enthusiasm on part of the creators.
The Real Reason is Priyanka
Priyanka had started getting an idea from the show’s low rating that it may not actually run for long. So soon, she started committing herself for other projects and walked-out of ‘Quantico’ eventually.
‘Quantico’ features Priyanka as Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) recruit framed for a bombing attack. Sceptics say the show got cancelled owing to Priyanka’s ethnicity. The show faced a backlash for its controversial Indian nationalist plot. Disney-owned ABC issued an apology for the episode where it featured an Indian as a terrorist.
The scene was from ‘The Blood of Romeo’ where an Indian MIT professor is impersonating to be Pakistani national and plans a nuclear strike on New York. Social media was outraged with that scene, and actress Priyanka Chopra faced flak with agitated comments and tweets. They blamed her for not taking a stand when this episode was being filmed or written.
Tired of continually pleasing the masses along with the Indian audiences, while keeping track of the storyline, the makers found it more convenient to call-off the show.
Apart from Priyanka Chopra, ‘Quantico’s’ Johanna Braddy and Jake McLaughlin also remain an all-time favourite of the show’s fans. While the show’s future looks bleak, we hope that there is a ‘Quantico’ spin-off soon. Let us know id you want the show to reboot by writing in the comments section below.
