“A solid blend of coarse, lowbrow humor and well-executed sentiment, featuring a great ensemble cast” – The Hollywood Reporter

“By marrying this utter bummer of a set-up with a wildly charming cast (see below), a deeply specific production aesthetic (criminal thrift, but make it the 70s), and the kind of confidence only a wholly complete narrative vision can provide, Garcia manages, once again, to thread that absurd/dark/warm/funny needle”Paste Magazine
“One of the strongest new comedies of the year” – Decider
Freevee’s “Sprung” follows Jack (Dillahunt), a convicted criminal who’s determined to change course and reclaim his lost years. But after serving more than two decades in prison, he has no place to live after his release. Plus, he gets out only for the world to go into lockdown. He ends up moving in with his former cellmate Rooster (Phillip Garcia), Rooster’s mom Barb (Plimpton), and Jack’s former prison girlfriend, Gloria (Shakira Barrera). Phillip’s character ‘Rooster’ is described as a child in a man’s body and the butt of most jokes but has heart and cares for those closest to him both in and out of prison.
Born and raised in the San Jose, CA area, Phillip grew up on the east side of San Jose near Alum Rock, which at the time was run down and dangerous. Phillip from a young age loved theatre and saw himself more in that space rather than acting in film or television because he didn’t see himself on TV or felt represented on screen accurately at the time. When Phillip Garcia auditioned for is first musical he decided to take a different approach and instead of singing a standard showtune and sang “This I Promise You” by NSYNC which landed him the lead role. From there Phillip was hooked and continued pursuing musical theatre and eventually began honing his acting skills. Phillip’s father supported his son’s pursuit of theatre and acting and would drive him to acting classes and for auditions. His father was hard on him and wanted him to commit fully if this was the path, he wanted which eventually made Phillip respect his father more. Phillip has participated in over 20 musicals in his career so far including West Side Story, Footloose, In the Heights, Pippin, as well as A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, to name a few.
After finishing high school, Phillip Garcia moved to Los Angeles and attended AMDA (American Musial & Dramatic Academy) where he studied musical theatre and acting. After graduating with a BFA in acting, Phillip landed a commercial agent and started booking gigs right away. Phillip would go on to book two Super Bowl spots for McDonald’s and Anheuser-Bushe. After working in the commercial space to pay off college loans, Phillip got into television acting and has booked roles on major series including FX’s “Mayans M.C.,” ABC’s “Scandal,” TNT’s “Animal Kingdom,” CBS’ “Criminal Minds,” NBC’s “Telenovela,” as well as Hollywood blockbusters including TERMINATOR: DARK FATE and Netflix’s hit Korean film OKJA, to name a few.
When Phillip is not busy in front of the camera or on stage, he can be found spending time with his wife in the Los Angeles area. Phillip is also a huge sports fan and has a lot of love for the San Francisco 49ers, San Francisco Giants, and San Jose Sharks. Phillip is also an avid golfer. Phillip is also a very proud Latino man and wants to get more involved with his culture and community.
