Peaky Blinders Series 5 finale: Is it the beginning of the end for Tommy?
Peaky Blinders series 5 finale episode ended in the most unusual fashion for it left the undefeatable Tommy reeling under existential crisis. He didn’t get it right this time. Tommy is unclear on how he lost and so are we. Has his ever-ticking-mind begun to falter? Is it the impending end of Tommy Shelby? The finale episode is the most talked-about-episode in the series’ history.
Michael reminded him that America doesn’t need an old fashioned backstreet razor gang. But Tommy was too proud to admit defeat and is certainly not retiring. The episode was pitch-perfect, especially in dealing with Tommy’s faltering mind.
The final image of Tommy alone in a field with the gun pressed against his head, metaphorically proves that no one can defeat him but himself. It was enthralling, more layered than what we have previously seen. We know he will never pull the trigger because that’s not who he is. He will rise above from defeat.
We assume that season 6 of Peaky Blinders will scratch his never-seen-before vulnerable surface but eventually, Tommy will learn to deal with himself.
Moreover, we still don’t know the traitor who failed the assassination plan.
Peaky Blinders series 6: who’s the traitor?
Tommy’s idea was to provoke the masses to turmoil during Mosley’s speech. He drew a well- laid-out plan to execute the riot. But then happened a series of events that ruined everything. Mosley escaped the shot leaving Tommy shell-shocked. Who is behind the double-cross that drove Tommy to bewilderment?
Most fan theories pinpoint it to Michael who has every reason to foil the assassination plot. But how Michael and Gina came to know about the murder plot? It is only possible if Aunt Polly told them which is quite likely because she chose her son over Tommy when it came to the business proposition.
Tommy is told time and again that his time is up. “I think it’s about time you and I got off the stage old man,” said Mosley to Tommy repeating what Michael said earlier. Knowing Tommy from previous 5 series, it’s about time he will resurge back on the top of his game and prove them wrong. Just wait for Peaky Blinders series 6.
