Starring former WWE superstar John Cena in the titular role, the series took the story where it left in the events in ‘Suicide Squad’. Peacemaker is recovering from the injuries he suffered during that violent finale. The superhero joins a secret group named A.R.G.U.S. to get involved with the Project Butterfly to eliminate the danger posed by the parasitic butterfly-like creatures that threaten human existence.
The story progressed through dark humour and some solid emotional beats, and according to the reviewers, it gets better with each episode. The series, which lasted eight episodes, was cancelled in February 2022. HBO Max didn’t waste any time in capitalising on the show’s success, ordering a second season. All of the episodes will be written and directed by James Gunn, who will also serve as showrunner. His writing and direction received numerous accolades during the first season, restoring DC’s faith in the director, who previously directed the ‘Guardians of the Galaxy‘ franchise for the MCU.
