‘Paradise PD’: Uninhibited. Unabashed. Uproarious.
‘Paradise PD’ revolves around a police department in a town where crime is at an all-time high and the police are truly inept. The force comprises Chief Randall Crawford (Tom Kenny), the very dangerous Gina Jabowski (Sarah Chalke), the overweight Dusty Marlow (Dana Snyder), the debased senior resident Stanley Hopson (Snyder), the weak Gerald “Fitz” Fitzgerald (Cedric Yarbrough), the dog Bullet who is addicted to substances, and Crawford’s boy Kevin (David Herman).
The town is likewise home to numerous odd characters, including Crawford’s ex Karen, the hillbillies Robby and Delbert, Preacher Paul, Dr Fudlicker, Hobo Cop, Terry Two-Toes and his mother. Certain segments of the show that act as running gags include Gina’s sexual obsession with Dusty, Kevin’s desire to dazzle his dad, Fitz’s two-fold life as a drug dealer known as the Kingpin, and the Crawfords’ desire to reunite.
Despite opening to negative reviews from critics, the series has found a loyal viewership over the years. Elements of surrealism and dark comedy have made it a sought-after series.
‘Paradise PD’ Part 3: What is to come?
The trailer for part 3 comes with the caption, “And things are getting weird”. The website for Netflix describes the upcoming part as, “A young rookie joins the ragtag small-town police force led by his death as they bumble, squabble, and snort their way through a big drug case”, guaranteeing a crazier, bolder, and even stranger season.
When asked about the process of developing it, showrunner Roger Black said, “On a micro level, we are always trying to add another tag or “out of left field” button to each joke or gag. So as soon as the audience thinks one joke is said joke, we hit over the head with something crazier to top it. On a macro level, we strive to get our stories down to the most fun and compelling narrative, making it coherent and easily digestible …”
Part 3: Confirmed release date and other updates
Netflix has announced that part 3 will release on March 12, 2021, on the OTT Platform. Part 2 ended with a power-packed finale in which ‘Paradise PD’ fought against the Kingpin, and Dobby crashed Chief Crawford’s chopper into the nuke to sacrifice himself. Lamentably, the Kingpin had a second nuke which did go off in Paradise. Hence, part 3 will show ‘Paradise PD’ dealing with the aftermath of the finale events.
It has also been revealed that Black and O’Guin have signed a deal with Netflix as a part of which they will create and produce new animated content, starting with the sci-fi series ‘Farzar’, while continuing to work on ‘Paradise PD’.
