‘Outer Banks’: A tale of the young, wild, and adventurous
The series follows the escapades of a group of teenagers called “Pogues”, who live in the Outer Banks of North Carolina at The Cut. Season 1 focuses on how the members of this group are determined to find out what happened to their ringleader John B.’s (Chase Stokes) missing father, and in the process, come across the legend of a treasure that seems to have a connection with his disappearance. As they fight against the wealthy “Kooks“, members of Pogues try their best to overcome obstacles they face related to love, friendships, enmities, and drugs.

The cast is lined up with fresh faces including Madelyn Cline, Madison Bailey, Jonathan Daviss, Rudy Pankow, Austin North, Charles Esten, and Drew Starkey, who leave no stone unturned in playing their intriguing characters.
‘Outer Banks’ holds a 71% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes with the critical consensus reading: “‘Outer Banks’ over-the-top melodrama is balanced out by a strong sense of adventure that’s bound to hook those looking to capture that summer feeling”. The series has also amassed quite a following since its premiere which is eagerly awaiting its next season.
The major cliffhanger that concluded season 1
No viewer can possibly be satisfied with the season 1 finale of ‘Outer Banks’. The unexpected cliffhanger at the end had fans turning in their seats speculating over the fates of John B. and Sarah. The finale shows the treasure being stolen by Ward, and John B. being framed for murder. Whilst fleeing Outer Banks, John and Sarah survive a near-death experience and find themselves in the Bahamas, making plans to get justice, unknown to their friends who think that they are dead.
On July 24th, Netflix announced that the show will be back with a second season. The makers of the show revealed that they had begun working on the script of season 2 even before season 1 was released. Showrunner Jonas Pate was quoted saying,
“We love the mashup of friends on this fantasy thrilling adventure, and we feel like we really just played the opening round of that story. And now that the audience knows our characters and the baseline engine of the mystery is going, we just feel like we have a lot more good twists and turns left to explore, so we’re excited for more”.
Season 2: What can you expect?
Madison Bailey, who plays Kie, spoke about resuming shooting for the upcoming season and what can be expected out of it, revealing,
“We start season 2 with the three Pogues [Kie, JJ, and Pope] in the Outer Banks grieving and figuring out their life without John B, Sarah, and what that means for the mission. How are we going to go about this when it’s just us? Then you get to see John B and Sarah in the Bahamas doing their thing”.
The makers have decided that at least some episodes of the second season will be shot in the Bahamas. But this is not all! The creators have expressed that they envision the series to have four to five seasons. Even though they themselves cognize it to be long-arced fairly far, they hope that Netflix will allow them to share all the stories they hope to present to their audiences. Season 2 most likely will be released in 2021.
