The ending of Modern Family brought a close to one of the most influential and acclaimed sitcoms of the 2010s and possibly ever.
After a run for 11 seasons, the modern family finally said it’s goodbye to the audience in a heartbreakingly beautiful finale.
HIGHLIGHTS:
- Season 12 might not be happening
- Why Season 12 is in doubt?
- Story of season 12 could have been like
The actors, from when they first joined Modern Family have now went on to become stars and the kids on the show have grown up in front of our own eyes, some have even grown with them.

But no matter how revered and loved a show is, nothing lasts forever. Despite hoping for a Season 12, Modern Family said goodbye after Season 11. But is there reason to believe we might see more of this family? Is there hope?
Season 12 Might Not Be Happening
Modern Family released back in the time when the LGBTQ community did not have representation as front-runners in any leading content. And even if they did, their sexuality and personalities could hardly be differed from one another.
But the creators of Modern Family brought together the story of three families and one faily of the gay-couple Mitchell and Cam. And in this modern family, they celebrated all forms of love even the ones not accepted by many other. They celebrated everything. Their lives, their jobs, relationships, their kids and we celebrated with them.
But a Season 12 doesn’t look like it’s on the card. Modern Family’s creators Steven Levitan and Christopher Lloyd had originally planned to end the show with Season 10. They finally decided to expand it to an 11th season to give their wide array of cast and their characters a proper send-off.
Why Modern Family Season 12 Might Not Be Happening
The reason for this is rather a simple one. The ratings and contracts.
The contracts of most of the actors were over by Season 10. Actors like Sofia Vergara who played Gloria, Claire played by Julie Bowens, Hailey played by Sarah Hyland are now all in the category of stars and a renewal of their contracts would means a hefty increase in their pay.
Moreover, the rating of Modern Family even though were considerably high had a huge drop from a few seasons back. Premiere of Season 11 saw the viewership going half from what the numbers of Season 8 were.
This all added up as a clear instruction and a smart business move for not renewing Modern Family for a season 12. But nothing is ever really off the table, is it?
What Season 12 of Modern Family Could Have Been About
Season 11 of Modern Family ended with Hailey adjusting to motherhood, Cam and Mitchell moving into a new house and committed on adopting a new baby while Phil and Claire adjust to life as grandparents now.
The new season would have explored these developments even further and seeing Cam and Mitchell run a household, handling two kids, one being their teenage daughter would have been the main focus.
All in all, there have been numerous numbers of television shows making their comeback years after their initial cancellation, one being, Will and Grace. Perhaps, a few years down the line we might just get to watch this Modern Family again.
And as our beloved and sorely missed character Cameron Tucker once said, “There are dreamers and realists in this world. You see, the dreamers need the realists to keep them from soaring too close to the sun. And the realists? Without the dreamers, they might not ever get off the ground.”
And while we come bearing this news to you as realists, you might focus on being the dreamers and dream for watching the Modern Family again.
