The Pride Month surprise we all needed
The pride month is so significant for the community as it commemorates the Stonewall riots, which occurred at the end of June 1969. When I think of riots, a quick flashback of the riots that went down in ‘Orange Is The New Black‘ runs through my mind. With 2020 being the beginning of a new decade in the 21st century, a new season 8 would mean so much to so many fans who have resonated with their lives of characters on the show.
“Before I even knew the word trans or dysphoria, I felt understood when I first met Sophia Burset on OITNB played by @Lavernecox. I felt the pain I’ve felt my whole life resonate inside me differently. That it wouldn’t have to be there anymore. Because someone else felt it too!” expressed a fan on Twitter. Lucky for all of us, there are speculations that showrunner Jenji Kohan is in talks with the cast and crew for a brand new season which, if works out as planned, could possibly be released soon. How exciting is that?

How impactful will Orange Is The New Black season 8 be?
There is no doubt that ‘Orange Is the New Black’ hit all the right (emotional) notes with its great storyline, amazing chemistry between actors on screen, and the deep connection fans were able to make with the characters. We must most definitely thank the rainbow heavens that Piper Kerman turned her real-life experiences into a book; else we probably wouldn’t have experienced what we did in the past 7 seasons!
Ever since its season finale last year, fans have stormed the internet with posts and petitions of how much they loved the show and how badly they wanted a new season. “Petition to renew oitnb for season 8 and it’s about everyone’s lives outside of prison, thank you” tweeted @daddynichols, a fan.
“Ugh I love vauseman so much you have no idea I’d kill for oitnb season 8 when alex finally free and lived happily ever after with her wife piper” shared another fan. “I can’t wait for oitnb season 8 which is coming out this summer, right?(just say yes plz)” tweeted a third.
When season 8 releases, it could possibly revolutionize the importance of acceptance of identities, dynamic relationships, and love being love in 2020. Whether the showrunners decide to include the old characters or introduce new ones, the theme of the show will remain the same- prisoners’ fight for freedom, equality, and justice in every shape and form.
When will Season 8 release?
We’re almost half-way through 2020, and things on the outside aren’t too happening, i.e. because of the coronavirus all productions have been stalled. Meanwhile, there is no official statement by the showrunners on whether they have greenlit the new season. And, if Jenji Kohan, along with the cast, agrees to a new season, no one knows for sure when shooting for the new installation will begin.
But there’s still hope! As Nikky Nichols said “You’ll be back. Humans are narrative junkies.”.
