Will Garou finally accept the Monster Association’s invitation and join them?
‘One-Punch Man’ has become one of the most popular webcomics and anime series in the past few years. The 2015 anime that is based on a manga written by “One” found instant popularity with its eccentric story as well as its intricate and ultra-modern animation.
Highlights —
- The story of the all-powerful superhero- Saitama
- ‘One-Punch Man’ Season 2 ended abruptly
- Will Garou finally join the Monster Association in Season 3 of One Punch Man?
The uniqueness of its characters and creative action sequences have made the series a huge hit. However, even though season 1 of the series saw widespread acclaim, season 2 saw mixed reactions from fans and critics alike. Season 2 saw the Monster Association trying their hardest to recruit Bang’s ex-disciple, Garou, but to no avail. Will the upcoming season 3 finally show the organization successfully inducting Garou?
The story of the all-powerful superhero- Saitama
‘One-Punch Man’ is the story of Saitama, a superhero who holds the ability to knock his opponents out in a single punch. Saitama becomes a part of the Hero Association but gets a lower rank due to low scores in the written exam. The series shows members of the Hero Association battle members of the Monster Association to protect the weak. Season 2 revolves around another growing threat to the heroes, Garou, an ex-disciple of Bang (S-ranked hero) who was banished from his dojo for going on a killing spree.

The half-human and half-monster, Garou has become everyone’s favourite anti-hero with his high sense of morality and subtle empathy for his opponents. He is shown to have had a difficult childhood which leaves him mentally scarred, making him lean towards villains rather than heroes. But despite being a skilled fighter, he still is no match for Saitama.
The abrupt ending of season 2
Season 2 gave Saitama less screen time and focused more on the development of Garou’s character. The season witnessed Garou defeating Metal Bat but letting him live because of his sister, Zenko’s bravery. In the final episode called “Cleaning Up The Disciple’s Mess”, the super-strong Elder Centipede returns, making it difficult for the ensemble of heroes to defeat him. However, Saitama thankfully swoops in and saves the day with one punch.
During this commotion, an injured Garou is taken away by the Monster Association that had tried to recruit him previously as well but had been rejected. The ending scene, showing Phoenix Man taking Garou to their headquarters, was quite an abrupt way to end the series since this is not a substantial plot point in the manga. Also, there was nothing to show which way the next season would be heading. In fact, had they adopted a couple of more chapters from the manga, the end would have seen the Heroes Association plan an attack on Gyoro-Gyoro and the Monster Association, which most definitely would have been a preferable conclusion to the season.

Will Garou finally join the Monster Association in Season 3 of One Punch Man?
Considering Garou’s temperament, it seems quite unlikely. Garou might be a villain but still has a great sense of justice and honour. He has put his life on the line multiple times to protect people from the Monster Association. The monsters keep trying to recruit him, even though he has refused their offer previously because he is always fighting against the heroes. Fans adamantly believe that he is powerful enough to continue on his own and doesn’t need any support from them.
However, Garou faces quite a dilemma of his own. Presently, he is strong but not at par with Saitama. If he consumes monster cells he will gain unparalleled sums of power and might be able to defeat whoever he fights. Although, at the same time, if he chooses to eat those cells, he will be left barren of the ultimate satisfaction that he seeks, making it a lose-lose situation for him. It is difficult to say, but taking into account Garou’s desire for greater strength, he may consider making the dreadful decision of becoming a monster.
Season 3 is expected to hit Netflix by next year and fans are anticipating a gargantuan showdown between the heroes and monsters, with Saitama and Garou taking centre stage. They are hoping to see some state-of-the-art, quality animation and superior content in the upcoming season.
