It’s not another Stranger Things, nor is it anything like Black Mirror. Amazon Studios’ Tales from the Loop is a gentler take on the usually heavy-duty science fiction that we are used to on screen. But we have bad news.
Inspired by the wondrous artwork of Simon Stålenhag, Tales from the Loop is an American science-fiction drama focusing on the strange occurrences in a town and the lives of its people, because of a machine called Loop.

Perfect in the balance between sentiments and intellectuality, the series was well-received by audiences and critics alike. The eerily beautiful soundtrack and the astounding visuals have also done justice to the book that inspired it. Naturally, fans have been anxiously waiting for Tales from the Loop season 2 to happen.
Tales from the Loop season 1 recap
Tales from the Loop premiered on Amazon Prime on April 3, 2020, with eight mind-bending episodes. Season 1 comprises multiple tales that are somewhat connected, but mostly standalone. It follows the journey of Russ’ (played by Jonathan Pryce) family, of unraveling mysterious, technological happenings, which were a result of experiments of the underground science facility called the Loop. In fact, each episode brings to life one of Stålenhag’s artworks from his collection.
Season 1 of Tales from the Loop stars Rebecca Hall as Loretta, Daniel Zolghadri as Jakob, Tyler Barnhardt as Danny Jansson, Paul Schneider as George, Jonathan Pryce as Russ, Abby Ryder Fortson as Young Loretta, Duncan Joiner as Cole, Ato Essandoh as Gaddis, Nicole Law as May, Jane Alexander as Klara, Tyler Barnhardt as Danny Jansson Shane Carruth, Roger Clown as Lenny, Stefanie Estes as Sarah, Tatiana Latreille as Lauren, Christin Park as Stacey, among others.
Set in Mercer, Ohio, the show spans across multiple timelines and dimensions. The people of the small town end up experiencing altered versions of reality, where the impossible becomes possible. Although every episode tells a different “tale”, they’re all connected to the central narrative device, the Loop.
However, the finale stirred up a lot more questions than answers, the resolution to which the fans were hoping to get in season 2.

What could have happened in season 2?
What is ‘The Loop’? It appears more like a seemingly fluid fence that keeps the town of Mercer locked in a unique zone of space and time. Residents cross in and out of these zones, via streams of water, wormholes, or pieces of technology created by humans.

Young Loretta also discovers spots which absolutely defy gravity. But interestingly, audiences never got to see a proper origin of the Loop. That is something that could have been explored in the much-awaited second installment of the series.
While speaking to Vanity Fair, showrunner Nathaniel Halpern said he had plenty of ideas for future episodes if given the green flag by Amazon Studios. He said: “The Loop itself is essentially a storytelling device. It’s somewhat endless what you can do with it, so I would love to have a second season.”
Halpern firmly believes that the first season doesn’t even begin to capture Simon’s artistic legacy. Fans were even expecting Season 2 to draw inspiration from Stålenhag’s piece ‘Things from the Flood’, a sequel to the original game. But unfortunately, there’s not a lot fans or the makers can do unless the network gives a nod.
No news from Amazon Studios on season 2
In spite of receiving praises for the breathtaking cinematic experience that Tales from the Loop is, Amazon Studios is yet to announce whether it plans to renew or cancel the series. Considering the cut-throat competition in the online video content market, the network will take more time to assess the viewership before it renews the show.
The show has definitely garnered mostly positive responses from the viewers, but the truth is, Tales from the Loop wasn’t declared a huge hit.
To add to their misery, the ongoing global pandemic has also brought the entertainment industry to an unfortunate, indefinite halt. So, even if Amazon Studios do renew the show in 2020, it will not be able to hit the screens before 2022.
Taking these factors into consideration, there is absolutely no reason for the network to rush into the renewal of Tales from the Loop for season 2. How badly do you want a second season of this loopy science fiction drama? Let us know in the comments below!
