‘New Amsterdam’: Doctors versus bureaucracy
Featuring a strong star cast comprising of Ryan Eggold, Janet Montgomery, Freema Agyeman, Jocko Sims, Tyler Labine, and Anupam Kher in important roles, ‘New Amsterdam’ brings a diversity of characters to its viewers, making it more relatable for the masses.
The series follows Dr Max Goodwin (Eggold), who is a new medical director at one of the United States’ oldest public hospitals, New Amsterdam Medical Center. At the beginning of the show, his marriage to his pregnant wife Georgia (Lisa O’Hare) is dwindling, as he starts battling bureaucracy with the aim of reforming the neglected facility to provide excellent care to patients. Every episode deals with not just a variety of diseases and disorders but also the personal lives and struggles of each and every character.
Despite having met with mixed reviews from critics, ‘New Amsterdam’ has received an amazing response from the audiences. The show is also popular in Australia and the United Kingdom. Fans everywhere were absolutely elated when they heard that the show has been renewed for three more seasons subsequent to season 2.
Season 3: Which direction will the show head in?
The official logline of the upcoming season simply reads, “How can I help you?” The COVID-19 pandemic will be the focal point of New Amsterdam season 3. Dr Goodwin and his team faces the formidable task of dealing with the ongoing pandemic and trying to maintain a positive outlook towards things. The first episode has been appropriately titled, “The New Normal“. It will kickstart the season. The makers will also shed light on the discrepancies in the American healthcare system and the problems people have had to endure during the pandemic. Dr Goodwin will be seen taking drastic measures to improve the situation at his hospital. “TV Line” has also revealed that Tyler Labine’s character will struggle with an eating disorder that he has been battling ever since he was a kid in the upcoming season. As a result, Iggy who is usually always focused on helping others will realize that he may need some help for himself.
Those who are waiting to see Sharpwin romance are in for disappointing news. The first trailer of season 3 has hinted at a possible romance between Dr Helen Sharpe (Freema Agyeman) and Dr Cassian Shin (Daniel Dae Kim) instead of one between Sharpe and Goodwin. The health situation of Dr Vijay Kapoor (Kher), head of neurology, will also be revealed in the third instalment.
