Although 13 Reasons Why was brought to a “logical end”, speculation about a season 5 is high. Will we follow Clay to college? Read on to know more.
“@13ReasonsWhy, y’all have to make a season 5 please,” tweeted @JNichelle725, one of the avid fans of Netflix’s teen drama 13 Reasons Why. Similarly, @AhmedAbshir23 tweeted, “we need to create a petition to make season 5 of 13 Reasons Why. I don’t give a duck – we need a fifth season.”

This much-loved teen drama courted controversy since its premiere in 2017 due to graphic portrayals of suicide and rape, along with a brutal scene where a male character gets sodomized with a broom handle. But that didn’t stop the audience from watching and rooting for its primary characters Clay, Hannah, and fellow Liberty High mates.
Four seasons and 49 episodes later, we see Clay graduating from Liberty High and eventually come to terms with his dissociative identity disorder. This bittersweet ending left us wanting more.
Dylan Minnette shares his idea for another season
Although neither Netflix nor show-runner Brian Yorkey has given any hint about a season reboot for 13 Reasons Why, Dylan Minnette (who plays Clay) shared his thoughts about the show finale while talking to Variety Live. He said, “We don’t see Clay as fully-recovered. You see him being able to own what he has been struggling with in front of an entire school at the graduation and finally have an optimistic outlook for his life ahead… but you don’t see him recover from dissociative identity disorder.”

He shared that he spoke to showrunner Brian about an alternate ending of the series. “I remember speaking to Brian Yorkey that I really wanted Clay to go for therapy. I wanted to take a deep dive into his mind. We’ve seen him have these struggles since the inception of the show, and I wanted Clay to face them headfirst.” While apparently, Brian had other ideas. So if season 5 really happens, he now has a new idea for him to pick up.

Why was 13 Reasons Why cancelled?
Netflix released a statement confirming that 13 Reasons Why won’t be returning next year. While the streaming company explained that the decision to end the show was purely a creative one, Brian Yorkey supported the statement in an interview with Entertainment Weekly.
Yorkey said, “I have always been a little suspicious of high school shows that run beyond four seasons (years) because, in reality, high school is four years long. So, as a maker, I felt like these characters graduating and scattering to next things in lives a logical ending point.”
Can Monty bring back 13 Reasons Why?
Monty was killed by his fellow inmates in jail in season 3. However, Timothy Granaderos, who plays the part, told Elite Daily, “There’s so much more to his story. I feel like there’s so much left unsaid. [It] tragically ended too soon while you were just getting to see the different shades of Monty”. The official trailer of season 4 sees the return of Monty, where he is back in season 4 to haunt the other characters.
13 Reasons Why has more reasons for renewing, and we hope it does, at least in 2022. We can always ask for a spin-off at least.
