A quick recap of season 8
Getting over Brody was very hard for Carrie but with each season, the audience saw the latter transform through her effort to survive as a C.I.A. spy and eventually, she became a “person of interest”. The season finale was a big test for Carrie, a test that almost made her kill Saul.
The audience saw Carrie stop a nuclear war in the Middle East and also successfully managing to burn the top Russian asset. Towards the end, Saul managed to escape and the former operations officer lived in Russia with Yevgeny, a Russian intelligence officer.
What did the showrunners have in mind while creating season 8?
As season 7 came to an end, Alex Gansa, showrunner and co-creator of the show, knew exactly how he wanted the series to end as he explains in an interview with “Entertainment Weekly” saying, “We started talking about the finale as we got episodes nine and ten as we were breaking the season”.

“Like, ‘if we make this decision here, where is it going to lead? How are we going to get to an ending that we like?’ We knew we wanted Carrie to wind up in Russia. We had that as a landmark ahead of us. But how she got there and what happened when she got there was very much up for debate”, he added.

Gansa concluded by saying, “One way to end would be to have Carrie exiled in Russia and living in some Soviet-like apartment block in an incredibly grim situation, isolated from the world, like Ed Snowden. But, we wanted more for her than that. So we gave her a companion and gave her a duplicitous relationship with him, yet a genuine one at the same time. She takes the asset’s place. So I felt like it worked”.
The changes Netflix will bring in season 9
If Netflix were to reboot the show, more characters would be added to the show. Perhaps, Carrie’s Russian life doesn’t seem to suit her, she could be seen involved in yet another mission that would lead her to save her daughter, her partner Yevgeny, and many other important characters.
For the series to run another season or two, the showrunners will have to create a storyline that will be at its finest, keeping in mind the original theme of the show. While deciding upon the season finale, Alex Gansa and his team of writers wanted to make sure they put Carrie in a position in the series that would coincide with Brody’s life. Pretty much like she was walking in his shoe.
Consequently, fans might likely get to witness a better, stronger, and bolder Carrie, bringing honour to her country and family. Meanwhile, her relationship with Yevgeny could either blossom into something very serious or could fall apart much like her relationship with Quinn did.
It is known to fans that the last episode was released sometime in April this year. And, with no official confirmation available yet, it is uncertain on when Netflix will announce the release of the new season. For now, fans will have to be patient and continue to sign petitions for a reboot as they have been doing actively thus far.
